New Toy Recalls
A couple of days ago, Mattel, the parent company of Fisher- Price, announced it's second recall in 2 weeks. The CEO of Mattel, Bob Eckert, stated in a recent interview with CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/14/recall/index.html?eref=rss_topstories#c...), that the company has "rigorous standards" when it comes to such issues and apologized to the public.
All of the over 9 million recalled toys were made in China. The toys either contained paint with toxic lead or small magnets that proved to be unsafe in multiple incidents (the kids actually swallowed the magnets allowing them to pinch off certain tissues in the digestive system, leading to surgery).
As parents, we rely on these companies to provide a safe toy for our children. No matter how hard we try, we're never going to persuade our kids not to put these things in their mouths or swallow fun looking mini magnets! Apparently, manufacturers from China will soon be visiting Washington DC to get updates on what is and isn't safe regarding toxins. Hopefully this will help the situation. I know there are many alternatives to these plastic toys, but they're fun and easily accessible for most parents.
Below is a list of the toys that have been recalled:
Barbie and Tanner
Batman and Onepiece
Doggie Day Care
Pablo and Friends
Dora the Explorer
Pixar's Sarge
Little Tikes Animal Flashlight
Polly Pocket
Sesame Street
Thomas and Friends
