Hello sleepy-heads!

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Just wanted to post a quick note to say hi. The group's been quiet (me too) and I hope that means everyone is getting lots of great sleep! Smiley Anyhoo, for once I don't have a lot to say, just wanted to drop a quick line.

Boy, you have perfect timing! I got online this morning with the intention of posting a question this morning. Since the accident (on April 4) my son, Robbie, has been sleeping very happily in his bed all night! Don't ask me why this happened, but it turned out to be a great side effect. In the last 2 weeks, however, he has woken up in the middle of the night (varies from 1 to 5 in the morning) screaming! It's apparent to me that he's having nightmares and it makes me so sad. What do I do!!! He usually wakes up and comes into our room, which is fine with me, but he cries for like a half an hour! My husband and I are at our wits end and need some help.

Hi Patti, nice to hear from you! I've been quiet because our sleeping has been going pretty well lately (knock on wood).

Except for the fact that my daughter now plays around in her room for about an hour before falling asleep, we're doing really well. She also started to take all of her blankets, comforter and stuffed animals off the bed to sleep on the floor, but I think we've convinced her the bed is much more comfortable- and clean!

I hope everyone else in the group is doing well too Smiley (wow, this a really big group now!)

Hi ladies!

Oh, Anita how terrible. First of all, what accident? Is everyone ok? I didn't hear about this. Second: Do you think Robbie could be having night terrors vs nightmares? The big difference is that they are not fully awake for night terrors and also don't remember them in the morning (it's sort of like sleep walking but with lots of screaming). Does he talk about anything weird the next day that indicates he remembers a dream? Or does he wake up and not seem to be aware of anything that happened? If the latter, does he also not respond when you try to comfort him? That could mean night terrors. It could be because he's just not getting into that good deep sleep, and it'll probably smooth out on its own. There's lots of info online about this. If it's nightmares, I think those too will pass. He is at an age where kids have a lot of anxiety because so much is new to them.

Yogamom: nice to hear from you too. Glad everything is still going well. Too funny about your daughter putting her stuff on the floor! They do have their own minds, don't they. Smiley She'd probably be okay sleeping on the floor too, but definitely better to have that consistency! My daughter loves to build "nests" with all of her blankets (and ours). She does that first thing in the morning, though.

Sorry, I thought I posted about that! On April 4, some jerk in a Frord F150 rear ended our Toyota Rav4-totaled it. It was right by Coors Field on opening day and he was paying attention to the festivities and not on the road. Fortunately, though, he was not going too fast as he only smashed the back end completely and not anything else. If he were going any faster, he would have hit Robbie's carseat! Robbie is fine, but I've been going through physical therapy since, although I'm almost finished (yay!) Anyway, my mil took him home that night and he slept all night. When we got him home, he started sleeping in his bed all night as well. It sort of scared me at first because I thought maybe he was dead or in a coma, but when I checked on him, he was fine. I decided not to worry about it, I got my bed back!

So, on the nightmares, it might just be night terrors because even when he wakes up and comes to our bed, it still seems like he's not really awake. It usually takes him about a half an hour to calm down either way. He never says anything about it and he's not scared to go back to bed the following evening. It's just as if it didn't happen the night before. So, I don't know, I guess either way, he'll grow out of them, but it kind of scares me when he starts screaming. Thanks so much.

HI there-
I haven't posted in awhile either because our sleep issues are currently at bay. Sounds like everyone is quiet for the most part too.
Anita-so sorry to hear about your accident. I had an uninsured motorist total my car when Avery was only 3 months old. Sent us all to the hospital, etc and we are still working out the details (16 months later). I totally understand how frustrating it all is. Hang in there.
Sounds to me like Robbie is having night terrors. Avery had those a few times and it was during a major transition. Good thing is they don't remember them and they don't last forever. I hope it passes soon for you.
Take care,
Adrienne

Last night was pretty good for us, he slept all night and played in his room for I'm not sure how long until he finally came in and got me! The night terrors have been subsiding little by little these past couple of nights, so that's great!

The driver who hit me presented insurance at the scene, but didn't have insurance, so we're dealing with that right now. Our insurance company is really awesome (USAA) and have been asking everyone who is treating me to bill them directly. We're only out our deductible right now, but if they ever get any money from the driver, then the first $500 will come to us. Hopefully they will just deal with it and we won't have to take him to court.

Scary incident, Anita, but I'm glad you're all doing fine. And all the better if you had a positive side-effect! That's fantastic that Robbie's doing so well in his own bed. What year Rav 4 do you guys have? We have one too, that's why I ask.

As for us, Emma is doing well with staying in her own bed. Every once in awhile she comes in in the middle of the night and slides in next to me, and I'm sleeping so hard I don't even really realize she's in there until I wake up later, and there she is! It sounds terrible, but when you need you need sleep I guess. Our only problem now is that she does still wake up most nights. Sigh. She does go back to sleep pretty easily, and in her own bed, but I'm tired of the wake ups. I know we'll get there eventually though. I know part of the reason it's taken so long is that each time we've moved, we've slipped into old habits and let her come in with us more. I guess it's because we get so tired from the moving it's just easier that way. Now we've been in our current place for a couple of months so things are settling down again.

Thanks for checking in everyone! It's nice to know what you've all been up to. Smiley

We had a 96 Rav4 with an extended back end, so that was a good thing as well. I think the back end ended up like a foot away from Robbie's carseat. That doesn't sound too bad with you sleeping so soundly you don't feel Emma, this morning Robbie woke up I don't know what time. He was just playing in his room for a while, then he went into the kitchen and was eating crackers! I did hear him, but didn't get up until I heard the crinkle of the cracker wrapper!

For the umpteenth time, I can't help but feel that Robbie and Emma are somehow bosom buddies! Emma likes to get out of bed before me too, and the first place she heads is...the kitchen! She gets into the boxes of cereal on the bottom shelf of the pantry (safest thing to leave there!) As soon as I hear the cupboard close, I'm up! These are independent little creatures, aren't they? he he.

That's so funny-I have felt the same way so many times! I just have to look and see where Emma is and can almost always see where Robbie is going!
