Exergen TemperalScanner (a kinder, gentler and more exact thermometer)
I don't think there are many moms out there who have not struggled to get their kids' temperature! Whether it's in the ear, under the arm, or that dreaded rectal placement, they just don't want to sit still ( no matter how sick they may be).
So, I decided to try one of those easy temporal scanners. And let me tell you, it doesn't get any easier than this. The Exergen TemperalScanner is so simple and quick (only 2 seconds), you'll have that temperature read before your kid knows what hit him! Not only is this a gentle method to measure a fever, it's also proven to be very accurate. A must have for every mom, and a great shower gift.

The Exergen TemporalScanner is a temporal artery thermometer that is used in more that 30 % of hospitals and more than one million homes. The Temporal Scanner is sold at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Costco, Sam’s Club, Babies R Us and Toys R Us.
The product is essentially the only U.S. manufactured forehead thermometer, that scans the child’s forehead and takes his/her temperature in a gentle and quick way, as opposed to the ear, etc. There are two versions currently on the market, the original TemporalScanner and the TemporalScanner with the Anti-Microbial Head, which is the only thermometer that features a silver ion self-disinfecting head. The silver destroys the bacteria (including E. coli), mold, mildew and fungi naturally and safely.
With a gentle stroke of the forehead the thermometer captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate. With its patented Arterial Heat Balance system the TemporalScanner measures ambient temperatures, mathematically replaces the small temperature loss from cooling at the skin, and displays an accurate arterial temperature.
Why is it more accurate than ear temperature?
A major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers. The temporal artery thermometer scans the forehead area for the temporal artery and it is almost impossible to miss the artery during a scan. Also, the person whose temperature is being taken does not like something inserted in their ear, making good positioning even more difficult. The gentle scan across the forehead is comfortable and not objectionable. The TemporalScanner has been proven more accurate than ear thermometers by a Harvard Medical School study.

I found this beg. '06 when researching thermometers for my baby. We have this thermometer and love it. It is super easy and fast. It also allows to check baby's temperature in different locations. Forehead vs Temple, etc. Highly recommend this instrument.

PermalinkWe have the same one and love it too. Also, there is a $5 mail-in rebate form in this month's Wondertime magazine. We had to take our little one to the hospital and they swore by these thermometers.
