gift ideas

You know how it is when you simply HAVE to buy this present but you don't know what exactly you can give to this specific person?

So I thought we could share our ideas and thoughts about gifts here in this club. Most of us have this dilema several times a year - during the holiday season, on our kids' birthdays.... not to mention our parents' anniversary and our best friend's birthday....

We have so much more power when sharing our ideas and advice, let's do it here!

Best Thanksgiving Hostess Gifts

I came across this page and thought it might interest you all. It lists a few potential gifts, most of them are lovely (and expensive.....). Some will work well only on a Thanksgiving dinner table, but most are very useful. I especially like the "Green Salad Bowl and Servers Set" from SFMoma, I just don't know how big it is, it's difficult to tell from the pictures. The "Reversble Carving Board" I have, and I use it very often - it's very convenient.

Where do you get hostess gifts? I usually get something at Crate & Barral - they always have the neatest stuff at good prices. What is your favourite store?

I didn't really like any of them for hostess gift's except the candles on leaf set

They're very defined tastes, not so, what I call, "universally loved" which I think is important when giving a group gift (if you're choosing the give the same one to all).

Of the showers I've co-hosted, the hostess gifts I've liked the most were the Sephora Gift Cards (a few freinds did that one year after their baby showers) and nice candles. I have a deep love for candles and burn through them fast, so any time I get them, I love it.

Some would argue that the gift card isn't personal enough, but everyone I know would much rather that than a personalized gift they will put in storage and never see again. Somewhere in my house is a large "monogrammed items graveyard". Random serving bowls, some stationary (not ever a good idea-stationary is much too personal a choice for a gift-it's like buying someone clothing) and I'm sure others that I've completely forgotten about.

I've given candles to the hostess' of my showers along with something personal for each. I'm a big fan of a universally-loved gift (I don't know any woman who doesn't love a delicious smelling candle) with a small personal one for the individual. Like if the woman likes butterflies, giving her a butterfly book marker.....or if she loves a certain TV show of movie, finding a little something with the show/movie on it.....

Gift giving is so fun for me-I've started my Christmas gift idea list and it's something I really look forward to doing!! It is true what they say, giving is better (and much more fun!) than receiving!!!

Well, I totally agree that personalized gifts are poblematic. In fact, I don't recall any event when I actually gave anyone anything personalized.

However, giving my Thanksgiving hostess a gift card seems going completely to the opposite direction.

After all, if someone has people over for a Thanksgiving dinner it probably means they love cooking and entertaining. What can be more appropriate than giving then a nice table decoration, a cooking tool or a serving bowl of some kind? If you buy that at a respectable store and get a gift receipt, there's absolutely no problem for the recipients to exchange the gift in case they don't like it.

That's, at least, what I'm going to do....

Thanks Ayelet for the reference. I find those gifts very relevant and appropriate to give to your Thanksgiving hostess. I think I'm going to buy the electric knife to our Thanksgiving hostess.
