Question

weaning out of swaddle

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

My daughter is 6 months old and she is very active she was rolling over in her swaddle and it was waking her up. So I took her blanket off last night and she was up all night long every half hour to an hour. I finally had to put her in her snuggle nest and put her in our bed because I needed to sleep. What should I do? Please advise

I actually just started to not swaddle her as tight as I used to and she eventually started breaking through anyways, but now that she is rolling over she actually rolled over while she was swaddled and almost suffocated herself cuz she got stuck, so try try again because it gets dangerous as they get older.

Does she have a lovey or special blankie? If so, drape the blankie over her and let her hold her lovey. If you don't already have a special blanket, try finding a lightweight crocheted blanket in a design with holes. This way, you don't have to worry about the blanket getting over her face since the holes would allow air to get in.

It may take a few nights, but she'll get used to not being swaddled. Just keep trying.

Another thing you might try is a sleep positioner, although depending on her size, it might not work. My son just squirmed out of them.

Best of luck!

Have you tried just leaving one arm out and then both arms and progressing from there? My daughter would tug her arms out until she had an arm coming out of the neck of her jammies! It was a sight to see!
