Teaching My 2 year old Spanish

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

My daughter will be three soon and I am going to enroll her in a Spanish class over the summer.  I live in Chicago. She will be attending 2  90 minute classes  per week in which she plays games and interacts with 2-6 kids entirely in Spanish. I;m looking for some additional immersion.    I'm hoping that by doing this year round she will be fluent. I'm looking for a facility or organization that has play time or activities solely in Spanish.  I have a few friends who speak Spanish but most do not live close.  There is Little Gym, Gymboree and such.  I'm looking for something like that but where only Spanish is spoken.  Has anyone heard of any organizations that offer play time in Spanish.

I don't know if you speak the language, but doing anything that allows her to hear it works. Be it Dora (that works!), turning on a spanish t.v channel for an hour or so, or even listening to the music. It allows their brains to start processing the new language. My husband is Spanish and my 2 year old is bi-lingual. I only speak english. They tend to start picking it up. You may also try for a Hispanic babysitter that will speak to her in the language.

Thanks.  I've been gone a week and only logging in today to check out responses.  I like your idea of letting her watch Spanish TV, maybe a kids program she can pick up on.  I'm also looking to find a Spanish speaking playmate for her.

My husband speaks Spanish better than I do, but neither one of us is fluent.  I want my daughter to bilingual and in the city and country we live in Spanish seems to be the logical choice of second language.  We are hoping to get her into a bilingual school, however she cannot start until she is 4 years old and there is a long waiting list.

Thanks again for your help.
