I think its normal for most kids. My son was scared last week that there was a person in his closet. (That even freaked me out a little bit).
What I ended up doing was telling him that I know a magical spell that will make all the bad things/monsters go away. I said the spell and we did a little ritual before he went to bed that night and it worked.
No more monsters!
Also we got a him a cool night light that the monsters are scared of.
Thanks for the tips ladies,
I did both of those things and they worked,
I also made a star with glitter and glue on a piece of card/paper,
and pinned it on her wall, which we call her protection star,
and now she is great,
no more terrors.
Thank you for your help.

My son was 2 when he started to get his first night terrors. He was VERY afraid there were monsters in his room. We bought a book called "Go Away, Big Green Monster!" and the first time we read he was doing better.
There's obviously a big age difference between two and five, but I found getting a few monster-friendly nighttime books helped.

Never b4 heard of these until my son was born and it took me 2 years to get an ER doctor to confirm that in fact he had night terrors, if you read on them u r 2 leave them b and they usually last around 15 mintues or 1/2 hour, but they come out of it. They appear to b awake when actually they r not and they have amnesia when they wake up recalling nothing. We were lucky enough to beat them by dr.s advice for 1 week wake them in their rem sleep until there eyes are open and let them fall back to sleep on there own. You do this with every sleep for an entire week and they are cured. Hope This helps.

I have an adopted six year old daughter who has night terrors. She screams hysterically yet is compliant. It is possible to have her lay back down but the screaming doesn't stop. She had been a victim of horrific sexual and physical abuse from the time she was six months old and the night terrors usually coincided with yet another unlocked memory that had been triggered by an seemingly insignificant event to us.
I have an older son that is now twenty. He had plain ol' bad dreams and scary thoughts at bedtime. He made his very own "dreamcatcher" and hung it in the doorway. ONE NIGHT and we were on our way to sleeping happily ever after.
Gosh I can relate to that and I found this technique which really helped my daughter

It worked for many folks who tried it pretty weird but very effective.
