I laid a towel on the bottom of the bathtub and put just enough water in the tub to cover the towel. Then I laid my son on the towel (on his back) and washed him. It provided a soft surface for him and there wasn't enough water in the tub that he was submerged. Plus I was always there so it wasn't dangerous. (This is how my mom bathed me and my siblings) It worked really well.

Then when my son could sit up on his own with some support I purchased an Aquababy bath ring (about $20). It provided enough support so he could sit up in the tub and play and I could wash him thoroughly. He is 10 months old and I still use it even though he sits up well by himself. I feel better having a little more support for him in the tub.

There are lots of different products out there but I kept hearing experienced moms talk about the bath ring and how their babies used it up to about a year and a half. I like the extra security it provides and he loves it now because he can play in the water after I am done scrubbing.

I got a tub that she could recline in on one end or sit up straight on the other end. I think it is Safety1st. Then we moved on to putting a plastic laundry basket in the big tub; then on to the big tub with non-slip bath mats.

Good luck!
