Question

Nanny / Baby sitter referrals ?

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

We recently moved to the peninsula from San Francisco and are looking for a nanny and/or sitter. I'm temporarily in Woodside/Redwood City area but am house hunting in the Burlingame/Millbrae area.

I'm looking for a part-time nanny to watch my 10-month old son 2 days/week, maybe 3.

I'd love to find someone for evening 'date night' as well, which usually works fine with a college student baby sitter.

Does anyone have a nanny they use part-time that would like to pick up a couple more days?? Also, any great evening sitter referrals??

Any advice/info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, ~Dee

I don't have names to offer, but I loved the services SitterCity.com offered. It's five dollars a month, and you can screen, specify, and communicate with sitters who are targeting families like yours. It's a great tool--we got way more responses than we needed!

We used nannies4hire.com to find our nanny. She doesn't work evenings for date night, but I'm sure you could find someone on the site who would!

ask these important questions:

  • Can I have your contact information?
  • Are you CPR and First Aid Certified?
  • Tell me about yourself and your interests.
  • Have you worked with children before? In what capacity?
  • What was your best childcare experience?
  • What was your worst childcare experience? How did you handle it?
  • Do you have three references for me to contact?
  • What is your rate and availability?

The whole process is so daunting that often times people forget the basics when intervewing a nanny.  It is important to give scenarios to the nanny such as: If my child fell and hit her head, what would you do?  How would you respond if my son began to choke?  These are important areas that you should address beyond simply asking if they are trained in CPR or other first aid.  Jill Starishevsky, Founder,  http://HowsMyNanny.com

I am a stay at home mom that lives in Liberty Township/West Chester Ohio.  I have a 6 year old and a 4 month old of my own.  I have watched children in the past, as recently as September of 06.  But took time off to have my baby.  The school that we live closest to is Cherokee Elementary.  I am new to the mothersclick and i'm not sure if this is the area to put this info. If it is, and if any parents are interested please email me.  My rates are very reasonable and I have several references.

this site worked for my and my friends who tried it: www.sittercity.com.

I'd recommend www.laborfair.com I've found numerous good sitters there a housekeeper and even a great handyman! It's a great resource for those looking to get work done around the house. They list service providers in numerous categories like plumbing, carpentry, petcare, senior care etc. All the providers have had their references checked too, so its great for finding reliable help, kinda like Craigslist mixed with facebook, but way way better Smiley

I use Care.com and really like it. I think the overall quality of their sitters/nannies is better than average, and they do free background checks. They also have great tips for how to interview sitters/nannies, etc. (They also have housekeepers, pet sitters, tutors and elder care...)
