Question
Is my 5 month old son eating too much?
My 5 month old son weighs anywhere from 18-20 lbs., he is starting to eat rice cereal for breakfast, 8 oz. bottles throughout the afternoon, and a jar of veggies for dinner, along with a 6 oz. bottle. People are always in shock when I tell them he's 5 months, and my mother [grandma] always likes to mention he's eating too much. I can't stop feeding him, He's a hungry boy! What should I do?

Go with your gut. YOU are the mom. If he's hungry, feed him! A 5 month old will not over eat! Hope that helps!

my daughrer was almost 10 pounds when she was born! all she does is eat ever since she was born. if he is hungrey- feed him, esp when he is this young, i wouldnt worry about an infant getting over fed. its when they start on solids and "big people food" that needs closer attention!

Children have a built in calorie counter that measures just the right amount of solid foods, formula or breast milk they should be consuming. This "counter" slowly begins to disappear in their toddler years when they become too busy to eat or too opinionated to eat what you prepare. Enjoy this time and ignore everyone else's "expert" opinions. My two sons are tiny and I get the exact opposite and oh so helpful advice that I don't feed them enough. (The graze) I believe I read the calorie counter theory in Happiest Toddler on the Block or Spock...can't remember at the moment. As long as they are getting the options of veggies, fruits, healthy grains, and calcium you are doing a GREAT JOB!!! Pat yourself on the back for carrying! Anywho, feed your baby. Someday you will be wishing he would eat something, anything!
