Mirena IUD Problems
I had the IUD put in at my 6 week post baby appointment. I heard about the IUD from all my friends who LOVED it. So I went along with it. Other forms of BC just don't work that great for me so I thought I'd give this one a try.... now before I go on, my situation is uncommon and almost a rare case. However, with the recent rise in popularity of the IUD, I wouldn't be surprised if this became more common.
Two days after I had the IUD in place, I was using the bathroom and heard/felt this loud popping sound "down there" - I remember thinking that was odd. I tried finding the stings with no luck and even had my husband looking for them. (He's a trooper!) The next day, I made an appointment to make sure everything was okay and the IUD was still in place. 3 hours later, I left the hospital with an appointment for an X-ray -- I went through a 45 minute exam with the OB looking for this stupid thing and 2 ultra sounds - A normal and internal one -- They could find nothing. I was trying really hard not to panic.I had to go out of town for about 2 months so I had to wait until I got back to get my x-ray.... had the x-ray - they found it! The doctors told me that my OB would call and let me know where the IUD was. Never happened. Now if I had known the outcome was going to be this, I would have had this taken care of beforehand, however with my type of career sometimes that isn't an option. So I called to make an appointment to have it removed and it turns out that all along the IUD was never put in right from the beginning and now it's in my adbomen cavity - Yes you're reading this right. It went straight through my uterus! So now the only way to get this out is to have surgery. So here I am now, 6 months later waiting to have surgery - again! I just had a C-section for my son!
To tag along with that, at first I was having a period every 2 weeks, then it went down to every week and a half. (The hubs hated that!) and I have crampy type symptoms all the time. My face didn't start breaking out until recently. I haven't had a breakout like this in years. I feel more tired than usual as well... but that can also be because I recently had a kiddo.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I didn't know about this website until today, and I am so relieved to read everyone's posts. I have had the mirena iud for 9 months now. I too have suffered severe side effects, and been the to dr. several times since the iud was put in. Depressions, mood swings, anxiety, heart racing, gagging, constant recurring yeast infections... the list goes on and on. My husband swears that this is the worst contraception - however, it is effective, as I haven't wanted to have sex for months ... it is just too uncomfortable, and unpredictable. I have been prescribed xanax and prescription yeast infection medication, as well as being tested for diabetes (the dr's reasoning for my yeast infections). I have constant spotting and painful urination. I just got off the phone making my appt. to take the iud out. I was on the pill for 9 years and decided to go with the iud for ease of use, and longevity. But it sure has been the hardest 9 months yet... and I always thought my two pregnancies were rough! Thanks everyone for all the helpful info. you posted. I am SO glad that I am not alone. The dr's have never said the iud could be to blame - they always said "this would have happened right away if it was the iud". Same story as all of you. Thanks.
I'm recently dealin w/ what feels like the pregnant symptoms. My breasts ache something crazy. As well as my horrid mood swings, and hair loss. I believed the hair loss was from getting highlights but reading through some of the things posted on here.. I'm starting to wonder otherwise. I also continue to have bad sore throats? I've been on this thing since December 20th, of 08. I bleed for weeks at a time... and it's usually not a normal blood color... it's brown? I now am feeling pregnant, and am a week late for getting my period... I'm extremely concerned!! Not to mention I can't sleep for anything.. I'm just wanting some other opinions... Someone please help!
i had my mirena put in in august of 2006, and at first i LOVED it, but after a year i started having really bad side effects(not knowing the IUD was the culprit), i started gaining weight, bleeding after sex, severe anxiety/panic attacks, sore breasts, back pain, numbness on the left side of my body, feeling out of it all the time, being tired all the time but not being able to sleep... i thought i was going crazy or dying, you name the side effect and i had it
I had the MONSTER "mirena" 4 days ago, i told the my gyno that is was because of irregular bleeding, so she did a uterine biopsy to make sure that it was the iud and not an underlying condition.... since i had it removed i have been bleeding non stop, it's like i just had a baby, has anyone elese had this happen to them?

i just had surgery to have my mirena removed four days ago. i had the iud for almost 3 years. after many ultrasounds, x-rays, poking, and prodding, my doctor decided to do the surgery. he found the iud in my abdomen also, with no explanation as to how it happened. i never had any pain from the iud. it has just been a long, frustrating process. i will never get an iud birth control again! (i also contacted the bayer healthcare company about the issue and requested compensation for all my medical bills related to the mirena iud.) good luck to you!

I am currently experiencing the same thing. I am scheduled for surgery in 10 days. How did your surgery go and any luck with Bayer Healthcare Company?
