i have had this birth control for about 3 or 4 months now and in the last week or so i have been forgetting everything. i just found out that i have a low tyroid so the meds that im on for that are soppossed to help me lose weight but i think im gaining weight if anything. i was wondering how common this is and if its normal. my dr. told me that this was a safe and effective form of birth control with little to no side effects.

I have had my Mirena for 2 years now. I have been reading several posts today about Mirena as I am thinking about having it removed so that I can try for baby #2. Over the past two years, I have gained about 40 pounds. I have just chalked it up to no exercise and not eating right. But after reading several posts, I have decided that it is due to the Mirena.

Also over the past two years, I have had NO sex drive. My husband is extremely upset, but I just don't care to have sex. Again, chalked it up to getting older.

When I had the Mirena inserted, I was told that I would have no side effects. After reading all that I have read today, I think that I was lied to. I have an appointment already in place to have this thing removed in December. I hope that after having it, it hasn't hurt my chances on conceiving.

I have had an increase in facial hair, as well.

I had my Merina IUD for one week and just had it removed.  I was getting terrible pains in my abdominal area and felt a burning sensation.  I also had pains going down both legs and felt like my "female" parts as well as my bladder were inflamed.  My doctor said I might be having an inflammatory response to the IUD but she really didn't see how any of it was related.  I think that Doctors just go by the list of side effects listed from Bayer (the company that makes it) but if you Google Merina IUD side effects, you will see all sorts of posts from people that had unusual side effects that they don't even list on the phamplet.  Not everyone will react the same way.  I personally was very disappointed and when I read all the posts out there on the internet, I wished I had seen that before making my decision.
