I just got merina, and I also been having side effects, I thought it was just me but I see now their is other people with the same worries. I have not change my diet and I was not gaining any weight but since I got Merina I have gain 15lbs in 3 months. Also I have been breaking out really bad this is not normal. I want to stop using this also I been having symptoms of being pregnant I really dont like this.

I just found this site... and it was in the weirdest, but best way. I have a new friend that was listening to my plight with depression, weight-gain, acne, and mood swings. I am currently on Lexapro(20mg), zantax, and adderall. I have reached my highest weight without being pregnant... etc.... blah, blah, blah.... She mentioned that her friend was on the merina IUD and was having the same problems -- and that after many Dr's apts... and deduction.. they realized that it was the device that was causing it. Now... this is my 3rd IUD. I cannot say that the first one was a problem... because I only had it for a year.. and I was only 30 at the time my daughter was born. BUT.... now that I am close to 40 and have had 2. I have been this blistering mess ever since. I NEVER would have thought it was due to this device. I am another of those people that cannot use the pill, so this was a great solution, and I have to admit that I love not having a period. I'm not having any more kids, and I wish I had my tubes tied when I had my son.. but I didn't so...... I'm gonna check into having it removed.

I just got merina on 11/11/08 I haven't had any side effects yet. But my husband informed me last night that something was scratching him in the middle of us making love. It was also uncomfortable for me when he penetrated deep, which has never been a problem for us in the past. Is this something that anyone else has experienced?

i talked with my nurse and she said that if your husbands feel like he is being poked then your iud my not be in correctly  i would go to the doc  to make sure

I just got my Merina out and when I first had it in the same thing happend to my husband it eventually went away because the merina IUD got more in place so its strings were supose to go more inside and it did so it didn't bother him as much! Just be very careful with Merina and if you start having pelvic pain of any sort, chills, fever back pain see your doctor because I now have PID and they are still doing tests to see if I can have any more children and I am devistated. I have a huge infection and it also caused cysts that have ruptured and  infection on the IUD and infection on the uterus and I looked over the pamplet for merina and I never saw the risk for infection but my doctor said that this happens a lot because you can't get that far up there and get the infection out your self so that makes everyone on edge! I am not saying go get it taken out because it will probably be a good thing for you I am just saying be careful and be educated on what the warning signs are so that you can get checked out before it is too late.

I hate it! I have had the merina for a little over 3 yrs. The only reason I still have it is b/c its so exsp to have removed and Im so over wieght that Im scared to get preg again! I havent been able to lose wieght at all from my last child, I eventually didnt have a period but had terrible pms, worse than b4. Then I just recently after about 2.5 yrs started get'n periods again. I have had 4 or 5 since this past Thanksgiving. I have servere ill mood swings all the time, just down right mean. Its getting bad. Oh, and to beat it all the last appt. I went to they said I know have cists on my ovaries, and the iud has shifted lower, I can now feel it poking me @ random times and its also painful during sex, my husband can feel it too @ times.

GET IT OUT!!! I just got it out and I know that it is expensive but it would be even more expensive to have PID like what the IUD causes if you let the cysts grow and rupture into infection. I now have so much infection that the medical bills are far greater than just getting the IUD out. If you are having trouble with money there are so many programs to help you see what you can find! Trust me, I have been so medically in debt, my child has been in the childrens hospital for the last month and I have a disablity and it could kill me to get pregnant so I know how you feel but some health risks out weigh others you know! Do you have other health problems other than being a little overweight because you can actually manage that while pregnant and your doctor can help you more than you think, just tell them your concerns if they are a good doctor they will help you, if the doctor won't go to a different one. My husband works in the medical field and we can answer questions. There are other forms of birthcontrol besides IUD I know they aren't as convient but they are safer to our health!

wishing you the best and good luck!

There are about 5 pages of women's experiences involving Mirena on this site.  If you put in "Mirena" into the search bar, it should bring it up.

Hello!
I'm new to this site and I first came across this question.
http://www.mothersclick.com/question/mirena-iud-side-effects-or-am-i-crazy
When I read what that person put and the responses I was shocked. I've been experiencing mostly everything the ladies put! I'm so glad that I'm not alone with this experience. I'm thinking about getting mines removed after almost 6 years. I've been having migranes, back pains, left leg pains, occassionally have stings in my vagina (but not painful), depression, acne, mood swings, nipple tenderness, stomach tenderness,&weight gain (40 lbs). I never knew that after almost 6 years these symptoms could possibly from the IUD. My doctor never told me it could be from the IUD, she just gave me pills for my migranes and told me take Motrin for the back pains.

Hope this helps
