I had Mirena inserted on Sept. 8th and just had it removed less then 2 months after on Oct 27th. It was horrible, and still is. As soon as I got it, I started to bleed. I "spotted" on and off every other day until I got my "period" which lasted for 14 days. I have gained almost 14 lbs in that short time. My face, neck, back and chest have been breaking out. My skin was so oily. Never in my life did I get any form of acne. Then I started to feel pain when I actually had sex for the 2nd time in 2 months. I was like this has got to go, so I made an appointment to have it removed. The dr. tried so hard to make me keep it & "try" it out. I already did that and it's becoming more of a problem. I'd rather be pregnant. But now that I had it removed, I've been bleeding very heavily. I'll be sooooo glad when it's over with. If by then, I'm not anemic. lol
I Have IT and wish that I never got it!! It really is so bad!! I have had it for over a year and I still bleed at random times and I never know how long it will be its from a day -9 days.. On top of having my period that was suppost to go away the doctor said, oh and I have been to the hospital because it caused cysts that had burst.. I cant wait to get it out!! Im going next weeek I hope
I'm curious to know if all 3 of you were/are using the Mirena which has the hormones in it. The hormones is what's causing your problems. Have any of you tried the one with copper? My daughter is thinking about trying that one, but I've heard it causes problems too, although maybe not to the degree as the other one. My niece tried it and she had an alergic reaction to the copper and had to have it removed also. So I'm curious to know if any of you have tried that one and what kind of results you had.
I used the Nova T IUD. It contains copper. I used that method of birth control for nearly 8 years. I loved it. Had no problems with it. The only thing I have heard from my friends that also use/used it was that sometimes it caused their period to be slightly heavier. But who knows it that was from the IUD or normal changes that happen at different times in life. We all got them around the same time, which was shortly after having our firstborns! I recently had my second child and my period is heavier now than it was prior to having him, so I don't really think the IUD had anything to do with the heavier periods, (which weren't really that heavy in retrospect, and still only required regular absorbency tampons). One of the other side effects can be more cramping. This didn't happen with any of us either. My doctor wants me to try an IUD again, but this time the MIRENA, which I do not want to try. I would definitely try the Nova T IUD again, and recommend it.
I have had my Mirena for 2 years now, and have gained 40 pounds, have increased facial hair, low to no sex drive, very moody, and tired all the time. I have not put two and two together until today while I was researching having it removed to try for baby #2, but I believe that this thing is the cause of my heart ache. I am having it removed on Dec 5 and cannot wait to see I will loose any weight that I have gained and cannot shed.
I have had my mirena Iud for 4 and 1/2 years. I have had alot of the same symptoms that the rest of you speak of. When it all comes down to it basically my opinion is that the hormones in it trick your body into thnking it is pregnant which cause all the symptoms. I have put up with this for 4 and a 1/2 years and I am getting it out on Dec 18th cant wait to see if I can lose any weight after getting it out. I am however worried about getting pregnant again with a 4th child. Not sure I am ready for that.
