Hi, I can tell you from my experience that it did hurt. At first with me the at the beginning it didn't hurt that bad just a bit of pinching, but they couldn't find my mirena and it took them about 2 hours of digging around to find it, after all of that I felt terrible. Hopefully they can find yours on the first try. They also can offer you numbing medicine to help w/ the pain. If I had it to do over I would have definately taking them up on that offer. Good luck
