interpreting a 3 year olds hatred of daycare??
My 3 year old has hated going to daycare for the past few months... He's been in the same in-home daycare situation (with the child of the woman who watches him who is the same age) since he was 12 weeks old and there's never been an issue until recently. On one hand we have a very shy son who's afraid to play on the playground if there are multiple children. On the other hand, he seems to do well with children he knows and familiar situations. Which is why this recent unhappiness with daycare is so troubling. I see in his explanations of home how his perception of things is not always accurate. But he cries if we mention him going to daycare and is afraid of "Papi".(the husband of the woman who watches him) He also keeps talking about our daycare provider squeezing his face and then making the motions as if you were grabbing someone's face to make them look at you. I don't want to overreact... But it is somewhat troubling; though on recent occasions where we've brought up similar fears of his to our daycare provider she appears surprised. If he's unhappy I'd change his daycare situation, but at the same time, I don't want to upset everyone's balance if he's just relaying things in a way that isn't accurate. (i.e., he loves to say my husband and I have used 'bad words' and should sit on the naughty stair. While there have been slip ups it's definitely not at the level he claims!)

Your son is unhappy,It's time to move on,at three yrs. old it's time for preschool, more than likely something has happened to discourage him, don't wait,go with your gut feeling, find a quality preschool where he can learn to play with a variety of personalities and develop his OWN !!
Get your son away from the babysitter's husband. He is the cause of your son not wanting to go to the babysitter. But it is time for your son to go to Pre-K. I hope that your son enjoys Pre-K.
