i just found out that i am 4 weeks pregnant what should i do and what shouldnt i do since its so earl into my pregnancy just about anything can hurt my baby right
First of all, congratulations! The first thing you need to do is make an appointment with an ob/gyn. If you don't have a gynecologist already (or if you have one but they don't practice obstetrics) then ask your regular doctor to refer you. You'll need to get those regular checkups. These are very reassuring when your baby is healthy, and can help catch any problems early on.
The second thing to do is RELAX. Don't worry about every little thing that can go wrong; it'll just cause you stress. (Obviously don't drink or smoke, but also don't freak out if you had some wine or something before you realized you were pregnant. That happened to me and I had a great pregnancy and now have an extremely healthy 3-year-old.) Just focus on holding a healthy, happy baby in your arms.
And then just eat well (try to eat three regular meals a day, and don't let yourself get hungry; I'm convinced that helped me stave off morning sickness), and get some exercise (walking is great) and all the rest you need and are able to get. I was really, really tired during my first trimester and since I was working full-time, I went to bed as early as possible and slept as late as I could, but also made sure to leave time for walks almost every day.
Finally, come to these boards with ALL your questions! There are so many amazing moms here, and someone is bound to have been through whatever you're wondering about.
I second everything that Patti said. You don't want to stress out over every little thing. Some things you might want to remember though: It's a good idea not to drink and smoke (duh!) but some things you have to limit yourself on are Caesar dressing (or anything with raw eggs), caffeine (doesn't harm the baby if you have a little, just not 6 cups of coffee in one day, it raises the child's heart rate), and finally, limit the amount of tuna you eat (and other fish that might contain mercury) It's okay to have it once in a while, but you don't want your baby to have mercury poisoning, it could cause blindness and retardation.
Also, a little red wine is good for you, in moderation of course. It's good to get the antioxidants and it helps get your blood flowing!
If you have problems with morning sickness, eat a couple saltines before you get up (before you sit up in the morning!) I was sick as a dog the first 3 months, but if you're not too bad so far, maybe it will skip you!
And yes, ask a lot of questions. No question is a stupid question!!! Good luck and congrats!
