My baby is 9 month to be (october 16 will be 9), since last month he is spelling "Dada", and since last week began to spell "Ma". I think that every baby is individual, for instance my nephew began to spell " mama and papa" from 7 months, but his sister did spell her first mama  in 16 months. she is 2 years old and not speaking except of mama and papa, and booo

My daughter used to say jibberish that sounded like "dada", but I wouldn't give it to him. When she was about 9 months old, as Adena son, she very clearly said "duck" followed by "no".

Every child is different. Some kids speak early, some kids speak more often. If your child isn't talking by 1 year, this will come up with the pediatrician. By their 2nd birthday, they are supposed to be able to say something like 50 words.

They usually start speaking words around 20 months. I will never forget when my grand daugher called me gramma for the first time....Because when she realized she could call me gramma she said it over and over and over again....She was 20 months at the time....

The Princess said DaDa at 4 months, Big Bird at 6 months, and Mama at 9 months.  The Prince just babbled until after he turned one.  i've been told both the children are incredibly articulate and have broad vocabularies.  I think it's all the way you talk to them and around them.

PS - My sister in law read to her kids in the womb, and read to them every night since they were born, and they still speak at a normal range for their age.
