How long is baking yeast good for?

I'm not much of a baker (or cook either for that matter) and I have a bag of rapid rise yeast in my freezer. I think it might be time for me to throw it out (it's been in there for awhile but like I said, I don't cook or bake!)

Anyway, I'm wondering how long baking yeast is good for and when I should throw it out? I know it keeps longer if you keep it in the fridge (I think I read that somewhere) but I don't know how long you should keep it?

Anyone who can help I would really appreciate it!

I found a link that says you can test it by putting some water on it; if it foams it's still active. But, if you don't have any immediate plans to use it, you might as well get rid of it. It's just taking up space in your freezer. :)
