my 5 month old was sleepin for 4-6 hour stretches at 2 months old and now she is older and wanting to nurse every 2-3 hours agian. Im not sure if she isnt getting enough in the night. I want to let her cry it out but I cannot stand it. I get so aggrivated and I just pick her up because I know she will stop crying. Also sometimes , latley she has been going longer in the day between feedins like 3-4 hours, so I know she can do it at night. How do I get her to sleep better. she is in her own crib in my bedroom. She has also been going at my breast like she wants it then suckling for a few seconds and then comes off and crys. Is she self weaning??????

Have you started cereal yet? Maybe she is just needing a little more substance in her old age
Sounds a little like she is going through a growth spurt, but also I agree with MrsPelly. Depending on how old she is, she might just need more to satisfy her. And if she's only sucking for a few minutes sometimes, she might just be thirsty and not hungry. You can try giving her something else to drink, like water, or juice if she's old enough. It sounds like she isn't, though, but if she's at least 4 months, she can probably have cereal now. I started mine on cereal at 4 months, although it wasn't until recently that she began really eating better (she's now 8 months). I didn't put the cereal in her milk, as some people do (like pump and mix it if breastfeeding or just mix with formula) because I read that isn't a good idea. You want to establish a sense of eating with the cereal, and not have them associate it with drinking. I have signed up for various newsletters that send me information every month about my baby's age. One was at Nestle, one at pampers, and one at huggies I think. They provide a lot of good information about things like this and answer a lot of questions. Hope this helps.
You are right that you should not put baby cereal into a bottle. The reason for that is as you suggested; it confuses the baby's ability to know when she/he is full and this can actually lead to a child being overweight (though I doubt this is the number one cause of overweight kids). However, it is perfectly fine to mix breast milk or formula into the cereal, which is stated on the package. You are mixing it to the consistency of cereal, not putting it into the bottle, so they do know they are eating not drinking. It also helps them adjust to solids because of the familiar taste.
