I am very sick. I had my son in March 2007. 6 weeks after delivery I requested to get an IUD. Ever since then I have been so very sick. I spent over $6,000 dollars last year in co pays and tests. I have seen 8 different doctors and no one can seem to figure out why I am in so much pain. I noticed after getting the IUD my periods became more painful. A few months later I started waking up every single night and morning with severe heartburn and gerd. I had tests done for that too which showed up as nothing being wrong.   I AM SOOOO SICK AND DOCTORS REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT IS MY IUD.
I have also had MRI'S , X-RAYS, BLOOD WORK and many other tests done on me to find out what is wrong. After all these tests I had done, after following all my doctors orders, I loose my job with UPS. I needed to have surgery to remove lemon sized Ovarian Cysts along with Endemetriosis and because I used all my personal leave time for multiple doctor appointments, UPS could not approve my time off to have my surgery.
Since the surgery I have not got any better. I am still unable to work or even care for my own son.
I have a wonderful fiance whom cares for my son day and night when he is not working.
I want to know why doctors refuse to believe that an IUD can cause all these issues. My last visit was earlier this week it was to have the IUD removed. Unfortunately for me, my doctor could not find it...he couldnt even find the STRING!!! Now I have to have surgery to get it removed along with more ovarian cysts.
Has anyone else experienced the same reactions? I have so many questions and really NEED HELP! 

I had my baby in november and i have been bleeding ever since i got it pretty heavy and i didn't know if it was normal or not, i have thought about getting it removed also. i have noticed some weight gain but i didn't know if i was crazy or not lol, i've had cramping and also just been bloated. Just wanted to let you know i have been doing the same things, and don't really know what to do about it!

Hi, I got mirena June of 08! Its side effects are horrible! I think that doctors give us answers based on studies and not on an individual basis because every women is different! (therefore they're LIARS)! Mirena makes you gain a ton of weight and can even give you acne! And about the periods... Mirena effects each women differently and we all have different hormone levels, stress, etc..... Therefore the hormones that Mirena carries is functioning with your body!!! Its like a diet, not all diets work the same on each person!

I am writing to warn all of this horrific method of birth control....I had the Mirena inserted over a year ago, I had been on every other birth control, have 5 children and was talked into this by my OBGYN instead of having my tubes tied. I began experiencing hair loss...not a few hairs here and there...I am a professional in the beauty industry and so is my mother in law....we both knew it wasn't normal..periods, weight gain..then weight loss...acne...mood swings....depression,insomnia,a loss of sexual appetite that has basically destroyed my relationship, not to mention having sex and the pain involved because of dryness...yeast infections and ovarian cysts that I never in my life had till the Mirana....My doctor never connected the cysts with it after many ruptures and many visits...she actually told me that birth control was the only way to keep the cysts at a minimum further discouraging me from having the Mirana removed....depression ,anixiety that caused me to seek help from my primary doctor who could only suggest I be put on Adavant for the anxiety...which made me feel worse, I quit taking medication only to end up having another condition come along due to stress and anxiety that the doctor has no explanation for or a reason why I would have this ...Raynuuds Disease, which has taken over my life almost made me loose my fingers because of ulcers developing due to a problem with circulation caused from stress that I am now on many medicatios and seeing a rheumatoligist and my future with my profession is being put on hold....all of my symptoms no doctor has been able to put together until I spent a bout last night again doubled over in pain with my usual cyst occurances...with no sleep I got on the computer and did the research on my latest gut feeling.....This damn Mirena!...I was extremely healthy and happy until I had this...all the dates of medical problems point to the exact time this Mirena was inserted...after reading for 3 hours warnings, that by the way are not even explained when you get this,stories from people just like me whose lives were destroyed or almost destoyed from the Mirena I called my OBGYN to tell her of the evidence I had found and maybe this was the answer of course being a Saturday...no help.. I was told to go to the emergency room to make sure the cysts were not infected again and to call on monday......really it was like a slap in the face ...for a year I have not been the same...and nobody once thought that this was a cause?...I went into the bathroom and removed it myself, not that I am condoning self removal, you should talk to your doctor...I have been to specialists..OBGYNs, and every doctor who could not understand why I was having these problems and only 32....I am still going to call my doctor on monday..go in and ask her why I was never informed of this...and hopefully within time I will get my life back...in the meantime this company will pay for the time it took from me and my family, I plan on doing anything I can to get the word out on this and hopefully go forward with a civil suit when the time comes...they owe it to women like us...we can not get back the time this Mirena has taken from us, but hopefully we can put the word out to other people that this should be taken of the market!
