Question
getting a 4 month old to sleep!
Please help!!
I thought we were doing good until about a week ago
then my 4 month old started waking up about every 2 hours! AHHHHH She is still doing this, which is making this hard for mommy to function at all-- especially at work. Does anyone know anything that might help? She gets really cranky at 8:30 and wants to go to bed, she is eating a veggie for lunch and dinner and also eats cereal! I use Orajel on her gums, I simply don't know what else to try!

When you find out please E_mail me back because my daughter is 7 months old and still doesn't sleep throught the night. Good Luck
Do you co-sleep? Since you're working maybe your baby misses you and is compensating by trying to get extra attention at night. This might be a problem now as she's getting older and more aware of your absence. If you want good advice on co-sleeping and info on infant sleep in general, check out www.askdrsears.com One thing you'll find on there, which can be hard to hear - especially for a working mom, is that it's developmentally appropriate for kids not to "sleep through the night" well into their toddler years. We've been co-sleeping with our son since he was born and it's worked out great for us. With his difficult temperament, we'd never get any sleep if we didn't sleep with him for at least some portion of the night.
As far as using Orajel, just thought you might want to know that the AAP recommends not using it since babies swallow it right away anyway and if you use too much, it can present a choking hazard as it numbs the throat. Also, research shows that sleeping through the night has nothing to do with how well fed baby is - no matter how much some people insist that it's true!
Good luck! I know from personal experience how hard it can be to work and be a mommy at the same time.
I would get a white noise machine or one of those crib attachments that plays mommy's heartbeat. It plays for about 20 minutes and everytime ours would get restless, we would walk in the room, hit the button, pat her on the tummy and leave.
We do not have to do this any longer and I think it was because she learned to soothe herself and get back to sleep. Now she sleeps through the night and is a very happy, well-rested baby when she wakes. Also make sure that you have a good daytime nap and feeding routine to help her recognize day vs. night pattern.
Well-rested Mommy
Our son was the same, after we thought we had the whole sleeping thing conquered he started waking. I just made sure that we didn't pick him up if we went in there. Some nights I would let him cry for 10-15 min. and he would go back to sleep on his own. But usually I would go in turn on his aquarium and rub his back until he quieted and fell back asleep.
Teething can wake them up, ask your doctor if you can use Infant Tylenol at nighttime for this. Also a friend told me that sometimes they have trouble sleeping if they are trying to accomplish some big physical task, like sitting up or rolling over. Is your daughter getting ready to do any of these things?
Finally I was also told that if a baby has an ear infection laying flat in their crib can cause a lot of discomfort and pain. We did find out with our son at 5 months he had 2 ear infections (he might have had them for a week) but I didn't know because he didn't have a fever and wasn't tugging on his ears, but I took him in after talking to a nurse and we found out that was what it was. After he started taking the medicine he started sleeping better.
It can be so many different things that a call into your doctor can't hurt!
Good Luck!
