Crying to Sleep

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Christie - I know you said that Grace would still cry a little when you lay her down for nap/bed, but I'm wondering if that ever goes away?

We took away Will's pacifier and started letting him cry himself to sleep because he was waking up more and more in the middle of the night needing us to put his pacifier back in.  It worked and he now sleeps 12 hours again without waking up at all, but he still crys for 3-10 minutes before falling asleep.  He starts crying before I even lay him in his crib now cause he knows it's coming.  I'm just wondering if this ever stops naturally or if there's something I can do to help him get there?

Let me know if you gals have any suggestions.

Well, I'm impressed that he doesn't need his pacifier to sleep - way to go!  Gracie still needs hers at bedtime, well, we haven't really tried to take it away.  She does cry when we put her to bed - I would say anywhere up to 10 minutes - sometimes not at all.  Depends on how tired she is.  I try to time it right so she is tired enough to go right to bed and not overtired.

We still have to go in in the middle of the night sometimes if her pacifer falls out, we don't clip it on her anymore.  It doesn't bother me that she fusses a bit, we just always try to follow a little routine.  Read a book in the dark room, CD player on, that helps relax her and prepare her for bed.

Once again, congrats on getting him to sleep without a pacifier - yeah!  I think it is normal for him to fuss a bit before falling asleep...not to worry!

Bummer.  I was sorta hoping you had some magical trick you could tell me and let me know it's a phase that he'll soon grow out.

I also try to time when I put him down to sleep.  It definitely makes a difference on how long they cry.  I guess it makes me feel better though that it's normal for him to cry every time for a short while.

Yeah, I had to get rid of the pacifier.  You know me and my sleep and I just couldn't handle the midnight interuptions anymore. Smiley
