Question
Cord blood banking
I am an expecting mother (for the 1st time).. and have heard and read a fair bit on Cord Blood Banking. Wondering what other mothers feel about this issue. Is it really worthwhile, like they sell it? or it is a just a guilt thing for those that decide against the idea due to cost/ practicality? My OB has recommended it, but thought i will hear more from the mothers' community about any divergent views there may be out there...?? thanks.

I never did it with my baby. I used to work with doctors and the consensus with them was that most of what could be beneficial has yet to really be tested and used at this time. If you're OK knowing that it could be awhile then it may be the right decision to make.
I have heard multiple views on this topic, from its not worth it and it wont even be useful in years to come. From it is truly worth doing this and it is the new technology of saving lives. When I was pregnant with my son, I also spoke to my OB-GYN. He suggested that if this is not my last penny, and if it was him, he would get the blood cord, and hopefully never need to use it but best if it was available. I have researched and heard that it could be used for blood transfusions, or in the case of a fatal situation. I think we as people manage to waste money on so many things that are not important and we can live without, that when I had to decide whether to do this or not, I wanted to without question. I hope that the blood cord always goes unused, but for my own feeling of being calm I am happy it is available to us.
