Hi there, and welcome to MothersClick!
My 2 are 18 months apart. It's been difficult at times, especially when they were both in diapers, but it's also great for them that they are so close in age!
I think there challenges with any age difference. Although sometimes I did wish the older one was a bit more self sufficient when the younger one came around. Then again, the older one didn't have as much time to know what life was like as the "only child" (aka, the only person in the universe :)).
I'm sure you and your family will adjust and do fine!
When my son was 17 months we conceived our daughter. They are close in age and I love the small age gap. The first few months might be challenging simply because it is an adjustment for everyon, including your 13 month old. Everyone in the house is learning their new role and new responsibilites. My biggest suggestion to you is to give your older one lots and lots of attention. There were times, like after feeding the baby, that I wanted to hold her but my son needed a little bit of attention. So I put the perfectly content baby down and played with my son for a while. Balancing life with siblilngs close in age can be a challenge. Now they are 3 1/2 and 18 months and they play together and interact well and make each other laugh. It is lovely and I am thankful for their proximity in age!
Not to worry, I have to sets close in age. 14 mo and 16 mo apart. Both sets they are playmates and close. Challenging, maybe, but really nothing to be anxious about. Enjoy the pregancy and it will all work out

hello and welcome! i have a 1 yr old, and a 3 month old. when is your oldest childs birthday? our oldest just turned a year in February and i had his brother in march. so i geuss they are a year and a month apart. it can be hard sometimes, what we did when our baby came home from the hospital, so our 1 year old wouldn't feel left out or pushed away, was when friends and family came to see the new baby, we told them ahead of time to visit with our 1 year old first and if they brought a gift for the baby to also bring a little something for our oldest too. just expect to have a problem with sibling rivalry. since i am breastfeeding, and spend a lot of time with the baby, i have my fiance' take our 1 year old out for walks, or with him to the stor, so they can have one on one time.
I had my babies a year apart. The most challenging thing would have to be who needs to be satisfied first. You have to decide, do I let the baby fuss while I soothe the toddler? Or do I let the toddler attempt to soothe him/her own self while I quickly pacify the baby?
I had every hope of nursing the 2nd, but I had to face facts, when you have a toddler you can't just stop and sit for 20 or so minutes to nurse. They are into everything all the time.
Be prepared to have to juggle many things after about the 4th month, when your newborn becomes more active. It will only last about 6 months, when you can let your infant have a bit more independence in a bounce seat or playpen. get a sling or baby backpack. Hands free is crucial when you are out by yourself without another sibling/spouse/friend.
Good news is you gain a lot of patience, bad news is, not many sitters can handle 2 so close in age.
Congratulations on your baby!

I actually have irish twins, which are EXACTLY twelve months apart, down to the hour(Trisha was born at 7:17 PM and Molly at 7:42 PM). It wasn't too hard when they were little, because being my oldest two they now always had someone to play with. My oldest is now 12 (13 in 2 months) and it gets easier with the years. When I was little I was an only child for two years and nine months before my sister was born, and we got along fine (for the most part).
Your friend,
