Cold Relief
Once again Little Man has a cold. Tis’ the season, I know. I had heard that rubbing Vicks Vapor Rub on the soles of his feet and putting on socks would relieve his coughing at night. Has anyone tried this? Is there any irritation to those tender little feet? Does it really work - even a little?

My girlfriend does this she said it works.
Absolutely! I was skeptical last week when I tried it with my 16 month old daughter. I used full strength vicks vaporub (not the babyrub) and VERY generously coated the soles of both of her feet - put socks on and within MINUTES her coughing went from 6-10 a minute (that would wake her up, her chest muscles hurt from coughing so much) to 2-3 a minute and then 10 minutes later she could breathe without coughing and finally fell asleep. Worked for about 6 hours (better than nothing!)

If this doesn't do the trick, you can also try a vaporizer and add medicine to it (follow the directions because you're supposed to use really specific types of medicines with them). These work essentially the same way (with the same ingredients) as the Vicks rub, but you get the added benefit of warm mist, which helps keep nasal passages clear. It can help keep the room warmer too!
