1st. Birthday Party Ideas

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Hi all, I am trying to come up with a really cute idea for my daughters first birthday. I know the first one is really for the parents but I want it to be cute and fun. He birthday is Oct. 29th. I don't really want to do a "Halloween" theme. I figure she will have enough of those throughout her life.

I am open to any ideas. Thanks

hi~ here are some ideas. isn't the 1st bday so exciting?! first, don't feel obligated to do a halloween theme, although it could be really cute. you don't even have to have a theme, really. you could pick a few colors - 3-4 of your favorites, and make that the "theme" of the party. get all your plates, balloons, cake, decorations, wrapping paper, invitations, food serving dishes, etc. in those colors. stripes & polka dots in those colors will be cute, too. another idea - we did this at Haile's 1st bday - get a big piece of scrap plywood, poster/foam board, or even an old solid colored sheet, and paint a "scene" on it. our party theme was under the sea and we painted a bunch of fish. you could paint flowers or animals or whatever. then cut a hole out of it somewhere (we cut out a fish face) and ask your guests to put their head in the hole and take their picture! use a polaroid or digital so guests can take home copies of the photo as a favor. think about who is on the party guest list and what kind of stuff they like...then coming up with an appropriate theme and ideas should be easy. Haile loves fish so that's why we did an under the sea theme, even though her bday is in the winter. hope this helps! good topic! www.playcafe.blogspot.com

Just went through this a couple of weeks ago! I decided to have the party at home, just to keep it simple. Originally wanted to rent an outdoor area with a pool but, like you know, it's mostly for the adults. We kept it very simple and geared towards the guests and their kids. The one year olds really don't know what's going on. In terms of decor, we had a 1st birthday table cloth with napkins, plates & cups to match, streamers, some balloons (including one big fancy 1st Birthday balloon), and a cut-out Happy 1st Birthday sign to hang from the wall. Confetti on the table cloth added a little pizazz. For the guests' kids, we had noisemakers, hats, a little bag of misc. favors, and bubbles. (always a hit) I also prepared mini corn dogs, tacqitos, chips and cookies. For our friends and fellow adult guests, we had a some nice cheese and crackers, warm finger food, and the big hit - fruit punch with extra punch. I know throughout our children's lives, theme parties become very popular. (Check out this site, http://www.birthdayexpress.com/ [1], just to put it into perspective) I realized this is probably the one and only time to not have to incorporate something like that. We did do the singing of Happy Birthday and the blowing out of candle. She loved that - hands and face covered in frosting, makes for some cute photos. All in all, it was a really fun party [1] http://www.birthdayexpress.com/bexpress/

I am in the same boat. My daughters first birthday is in 2 weeks. My boyfriend and I are 23 and 21 so we dont really know anyone with children her age. We wanted to do something fun for her but also not just for all the adults that will be there. Does anyone have any ideas

I am also in the process of planning my son's first birthday party. His birthday is November 17th. Since we have about 60 people coming, we put ourselves on a budget. We are keeping the decorations simple and we are ordering food from Costco. We have found Costco to be the most reasonable with pricing. For the little kids we are making cupcakes and having the kids put on the frosting and decorations themselves. I have about 10 kids coming that are 6 and under. Music and bubbles are always fun. We are going to have some crayons on the table and paper so they can color. We are looking for easy and clean fun for the little kids that they can do themselves. We don't want the parents to have to work. I have kids coming ranging from 1 to 6 years old. Any ideas, let me know. Party City also has great little inexpensive things to entertain the children. Enjoy your first birthday parties.

I am going to do a flower party for my daughters up coming 1st birthday. I will have her picture printed out on a round label, with glued on flower petals around it. Then you attatch it to a toothpick and put them on individual cupcakes.

I love themes like this that are fresh and unique. A bit different than the character parties that get so much use.

I design invitations and I recently did a cute "bubble theme" party invite.

Pick something that is her favorite....be it a color, a ball, bubbles, etc...and build the party around it.

I have 2 kids 11 months apart and with the birth of my second child I had to cancel the first birthday party for my daughter.  This year we will have the party together for 1 and 2 years old.  I spoke with a local party guy who does magic and balloon animals.  He told me that until kids are 3, he won't do a party and that after many many years in the business he found only 2 things that "can" work well.  The moon bounce and a petting zoo - this of course is all dependent on your kid.  Anything else seems to be too much for them or scares them.  Interesting is what I thought.

What about going with a favorite of hers? My dd love giraffes so I'm thinking of a jungle theme. I love coming up with ideas and design birthday announcements - so this is right up my alley!

I just helped a friend plan a wild west party complete with mining for gold and wanted posters! So much fun! Let us know what theme you decide on because we can then brainstorm together!

when i did my sons first birthday party i ordered from orientaltrading.com...just go there and click on theme packs and start looking!! When we had his party i ordered one of those party packs and then went to walmart and bought plain cheap paper plates, cups, napkins and silverware for the adults...it was all very inexpensive...but very cute...i think the party pack i ordered was around $20 but they have different size party packs...Good luck...I hope this helps...
