Whats your tip for entertaining a baby / toddler on a plane?
I am getting ready for a big trip in a few weeks which will be an 8 hour flight with a one year old. One friend suggested pulling out a new toy when things start to go a little nutty. Sounds like a good one to me. Any other suggestions?

Let me just say "Bless you child". I honestly suggest buying her own seat to take car seat or see if it is booked full, sometimes they will let you put the car seat in if it isn't. Most one year olds (maybe it was just mine) HATE to be held especially for that length of time, but they can stand their car seat better. Lots of her favorite things, books, snacks, bottles, whatever you think will make her happy. And then something for you and whomever you are traveling with. Take turns. Naturally Chamomille does help calm them, I think they get claustrophobic. Goodluck.

PermalinkI have heard sticker books are really good for entertaining kids on long flights. We are adopting internationally and several moms in our internet group have suggested stickers and keeping the child awake for as long as possible before the flight so that they might sleep.

Permalinklol, you can try...make sure you do bring juice and make sure they are drinking when taking off or landing because otherwise the ear popping will make for a very fussy flight...as far as entertaining...books...NEW books, pop ups...would be good...OH and make sure they are not kicking the seat in front of you, lol...I flew all the way from TX to Canada...with an 18month old kicking my seat...ARRRGGHHH, lol, and I am a tolerant mom..you dont want to get that grouchy man or women yelling at you, that wont make things any better!
Good Luck

PermalinkIf it were me I'd bring plenty of small snacks like cheerios, etc. Crayons and blank paper and coloring books could keep them stay occupied for a bit. A cozy blanket they can cuddle up with and don't forget baby medicine in case they get a headache or tummy ache while your in flight.
