We live in a really tiny place too and for our daughter's 2nd birthday, I baked her a cake. She blew out the candles and then we all had some of the cake.
After that, we just let her pick what happened. She got to watch her favorite show on the television and we let her stay up later than usual.
Just little treats that she usually didn't get.

PermalinkWe live in a small condo and my son's b-day is on Saturday (the 15h) and we are having an open house for his party. We know a lot of people and wanted to invite so many that we thought this would be a good choice. Also, we live in Denver, so who knows what the weather's going to be like!

PermalinkI've lived in several small places for the past few years! For my daughter's 1st b-day we invited one close friend who has a child close to her age; some cousins and an aunt of mine who lived nearby; another friend with no kids (I have to keep attached to that part of my life too!); and my mom and sister. It was a great group, not too overwhelming for her. Remember that kids this age can get overstimulated and keep it simple for their sake. They won't remember it so just get some nice keepsake photos and do something you and the baby can enjoy. (Although I like the open house idea too, because it's kind of casual but you still get to see everyone.)
