Teething
My daughter is 6 months, and is teething. I have tried everything from the teething tablets and oragel, to motrin. We have the teething rings and all the other toys that I can think of. Can anybody else through out some ideas to make it easier for her?

Take a wash cloth, wet it, roll it into a stick shape and then freeze it. Give it to her frozen to chew on. The material helps cut the gums so the teeth come through easier and the cold helps numb the pain. I would keep 3-4 in the freezer at a time. Tylenol works better for the pain, ask your pediatrician for her correct dose.
I don't recommend using Orajel or any other kind of numbing gel. I used to work for a dentist and Orajel is the same as the numbing gels they use before giving Novocaine. When a baby is teething they salivate more. When the extra saliva mixes with the numbing gel and runs down their little throats, it then numbs their throats and makes it more difficult to swallow. Just an FYI, most people don't think about.
Smile, it increases your face value!

When my daughter was teething I would give her either frozen waffles to chew on or frozen mozerella chesse. It worked well for her. She never liked the teething rings!

I know this sounds silly, but it has absolutely worked 100% for my daughter. Emma is 15 months now and has been using an Amber teething necklace for several months--since last summer sometime. I never thought it would work, but I figured I had nothing to lose. One of my friends who came back from Germany brought it over and showed it to me and had used it for her daughter who is now 3 and wore it until the age of 2 1/2. The natural oils from the amber are absorbed through baby's skin and help with pain, teething, drooling and are also shown to be associated with relieving other discomforts as well. They don't sell these here in the US--that I have found--in stores, but they are availabe to order online. This necklace is just for them to wear--not to chew on--and it doesn't break. You can recharge it by putting it in the sun every few months or so. If by some chance you need to clean you can wash it. Within 24 hours of putting this necklace on my daughter, she stopped drooling. It is incredible! I have listed some links that you can check out and find out how to order or get one. I hope this helps you!

My oldest son suddenly wanted a pacifier when he started teething at around 6 mo. He would never take one before that. When he started teething and fussing, I tossed a few pacifiers in the fridge to chill them and that is what we used day in and day out until those first 2 teeth came out. He never wanted another pacifier after that.

What a great idea. My child loved the pacifier right away though. She's 3 months & I think she's teething already.

My son never wanted a pacifier before he was teething either, I do the same thing you do, just toss them in the fridge. He has now cut 2 teeth, so we'll see how much longer it goes on. He's not a big complainer, though. The only reason I found out about his first tooth was that he bit me and it actually hurt. Never would have known it unless that happened.

I actually give my daughter popsicles. She is 5 months old as of yesterday and she just sucks on them and when the part she is on gets a little small and ready to break off I bite it off so she wont choke on it.

My son is now 10 1/2 months old and has 8 teeth! Like I said before, he's not much of a complainer, but cold pacifiers have worked really well, but I also tried the frozen wash cloths and he loved them. He loves to bite everything (including me) and this is just something he can chew on that he knows he won't get in trouble for!
On an side note: please don't think it's okay for them to bite now, but then tell them no later, this just leads to problems later on (I have a friend that used to laugh when her son bit her, until he was about 2-then she started disciplining him for it! Talk about confusing the child!) : )

My daughter is 3 1/2 months and beginning to teeth. I'm trying to find something that might help us here. The frozen nuk worked for about five minutes but the crying continues. It's making me nuts! The oragel didn't do squat and I don't want her throat to numb. I'll try the frozen wash cloth next; maybe that'll help. Otherwise I'm trading her in. She's still under warranty, right?. LOL!

That's so funny! I was just thinking last night that I wanted to trade mine in too! (Just kidding-he was crying for 2 hours last night and I couldn't get him to stop. He finally slept in between my husband's legs-he just wanted to know that someone was there!)
