Çradel Cap
My son is 1 and has cradel cap. It's red and ucky looking. The Dr recommended that I use the shampoo Head and Shoulders. Did that and it seems to have made it worse. Any suggestions?

Hi,
My son had a mild case of it, but this is what my doctor told us to do if it got worse:
Take a teaspoon of baby oil and rub it on the scalp. The oil will dissolve the cradle cap (because it is also oil that's just being made in abundance). Then wash hair with a dishwashing detergent that dissolves grease (like dawn). Then rinse with water thoroughly.
However, I would be cautious in trying this because of the reaction your baby had to the heads and shoulders shampoo.
Good Luck! Robin

Permalinkmy daughter has had cradle cap since the day she was born. my doc told me the same thing to use h&s shampoo, ive found that doing nothing works better. the cc will go away on its own when your babys oil glands on her head stop producing the extra oil. cc is not painful for baby its simply a cosmetic issue

PermalinkMy oldest daughter had a small case of it and so did my youngest. With my oldest, the doctor told me to wash her hair with the Baby Wash (Johnson's) and then brush her hair in the opposite direction. This way it would loosen up the skin. As soon as I started doing that, it went away. With my youngest daughter, she had it a little more than my oldest. I did the same thing, however, when I washed her hair, I would scratch her head and that seemed to help. She still has some of it but its a lot better than it had been.
