My sister is getting ready to start the process for in vitro fertilization soon...she had non-hodgkins lymphoma as a child (she has been in remission for going on 10 years now!!!) and due to the excessive amount of chemotherapy she has been left infertile...her doctor told her he might be able to use some of her own eggs to do the IVF procedure, but he might not and she would need a donor and she asked me to do it and i am more than willing to do that for my sister...I was just wondering if anyone has been through this cause i really don't know much about this procedure and i would like to find out as much as possible...if you have been through this in any way whether it be donor or recipient or just know someone who has been through this and have any advice/ info on this procedure please let me know!! Thanks

I used to work an infertility clinic and actually coordinated the donor cycles. It is an amazing gift to give your sister. Just to encourage you too, you are best donor for her since the eggs would come from the same gene pool.

Typically the process includes 1) making sure you are a good donor, physically & psychologically, 2) if you are a good donor, then the clinic will synchronize your cycles together, usually using birth control pills. 3) Then you will start taking injectable medications to stimulate the productions of eggs, this is monitored with ultrasounds and bloodwork frequently 4) when the eggs are mature enough, then the eggs are retrieved through a mildly invasive surgical procedure, typically you are sedated for this. Once the eggs are retrieved your job is done!

Wish you both all the best!

I just wanted to wish both of you luck. We have a baby boy through IVF (using my eggs and husband's sperm). If you are able to donate eggs that would be amazing. What a wonderful gift to give your sister. The response you got from the woman that used to work there was thorough. Hopefully that answered your questions.

Lots of luck to you!

Best of Luck! I have never been an egg donor but I was a gestational surrogate with twins in 2006 for someone who could not have children! your sister is very lucky to have you!

Hello-
We had our daughter thru IVF (my eggs and DH sperm). The person who posted from the fertility clinic pretty much summed it up. It is a few weeks on B/C to sync cycles, injectable drugs that make you mass produce eggs, ultra sounds and blood work every few days to make sure you are not overstimulated, then a trigger shot to simulate ovulation and then a quick invasive surgery to retrive the eggs. They knocked me out for the retrival and I was in a little pain afterwards, but nothing that tylenol didn't take care of. Kind of like strong cramps.
I became very bloated from the stimulation drugs and gained about 8 to 10 lbs, but once the drugs stopped, I lost the weight. It is mostly two shots a day and then there are some days it is 3 shots a day. My husband did them for me and most of the time they were pretty painless.
You are a wonderful sister to consider doing this. The journey to motherhood is a long road for some of us. Stand by your sister thru it all.
