Crib or Toddler Bed?
I went to work this morning and my husband called and told me that Robbie had climbed out of his crib! He's just shy of his first birthday so this comes as quite a shock to me! Should I keep the crib and chance that he falls out again (and maybe really hurts himself this time) or should we opt for a toddler bed? We weren't going to get a toddler bed, we were just going to go straight to a twin bed, but it seems that that would be a better choice right now. What do you think?

In my opinion, I think I would definitely get him out of the crib one way or the other. The sooner the better. One good fall and you've got a trip to the emergency room. (I speak from experience. My daughter was three years old and in for a skull fracture and concussion from a fall...not from a bed though. My dad was giving her a ride on his shoulders. I just tell you that cause it was a horrible experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. So if you can prevent head injuries, do so anyway you can.) Anyway, if your son did it once, he knows he can do it and will keep doing it. Especially if he's a daring and adventurous little guy. Both of my kids were in "big" beds before they actually turned one year old. It seemed to work really well for both of them. My daughter went straight to a toddler bed. For my son, we bought a twin sized mattress and box springs, stored the box springs and frame in the garage until he was about two and a half years old, and just laid the mattress right on the floor to prevent falls. He loved it, too. If you want to same money, that's the best route to go. Either way, yes, I'd definitely get him out of the crib before he gets hurt.
