I'm in need of some good ideas for my son's 4th birthday in October... We did the pumpkin patch thing for his 2nd birthday, the gymboree-type place for the 3rd.... I'm looking for fresh, fun and entertaining.... anyone?? anything??

Hi - I LOVE this idea that I saw in Parents magazine a few months ago. A "Let's Get Messy" Art party! Go to Parents magazine's website and in the search box type "Messy" and the results will come back with "Poodles, Pirates, and Paint! 3 Really Fun Birthday Ideas"
The Paint one is the one I'm talking about. It looks like a blast and I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to have a messy party too! :) Hope this helps!

PermalinkHello,
My son is turning three in Sept and I am on the same boat. I am torn between his favorite character 'Thomas the Tank" or "cars". Not even sure what we are doing...I will check out the parent’s mag website for details.
Thanks!
Warm regards,
Van

PermalinkI design birthday invitations, so I have tons of ideas that are very popular right now. Art parties are great! They are a lot of fun and a really neat idea.
I just did a "bubble party" where everything was themed around bubbles. Very cute.
What about a gymnastics party? Do you have somewhere that has an indoor swimming pool or splash zone?
Soccer party, skating party, sports party?

PermalinkWe live in a great town - with some great birthday parties! Since I am not creative enough to compete, I decided to have an "old fashioned" birthday party - with balloons, cake, cheesy pointy hats, noisemakers, and the games we loved at parties as kids - pin the tail on the donkey, hokey pokey, and freeze tag. Then we had cake and ice cream at the table with the barney cd playing in the background (you would be surprised how excited the kids were hearing their old favorites). Then we opened presents with cool pictures of the birthday girl and the friend who gave her the gift and finally we packed up small pieces of cake and let the kids assemble small goodie bags (with all of the cool candy we could find).
When we were planning it, I was afraid it wouldn't be "awesome" enough, but we had a great time and our daughter thought is was terrific!
Have fun

PermalinkMy son has a late October birthday, so we are also faced with this question. He also turned four this past October. His last birthday was at a Duckpin Bowling Alley. The balls are small, no holes for little fingers to get caught in. The owner put pads in the gutters so all the balls found their way down the lane. All the kids had a blast! My two year old was just as capable as the four year olds at knocking down pins. We were allowed to order pizzas and I brought cupcakes and juice boxes for easy serve, easy clean up.

PermalinkFor my daughters fourth we went to the bowling alley as well. It was a BLAST! And so easy. They bowling alley made pizza and we brought cake. The parents had so mcuh fun too and they all talked about how it was the best kid party they had been to. It was super fun. We also like the swimming idea, but I thought my daughters friends were a little small still for swimming. That may be this year.
