Sorry, I'm a big sugar-holic myself, and unfortunately I can't help you. But I do hope you get some good advice that I can use too!

Boy did this question hit home. I have discovered that the more sweets I eat, the more I crave them. I have to ween myself off of them and then the cravings will ease off too.
And no, fruit does NOT cut it. Neither does chewing gum or getting busy with a different activity. The one thing that does seem to satisfy my sweet cravings is a bowl of cereal. I guess because it's sweet and cold. You have to use a non-sweetened cereal. I use Post whole grain with pecans and raisins, but you can use whatever you like. Just don't use real sugar to sweeten it. I like Splenda.
You don't have to do cereal. Just find something sweet and healthy that you really enjoy. I personally like the cereal because it takes a while to eat it and because it's full of fiber it will make you feel full.
Why not try cream cheese and jelly? Or nutella?
Fat Free Pudding is one of my favorite treats. You can stick a stick in them through the foil lid, freeze and then you have an ice cream like treat that's Fat Free.
I don't think you want to try eliminating them all together. I learned from Weight Watchers that when you deprive yourself you're setting yourself up for failure. Just go for portion control. There are lots of 100 calorie bags of mini cookies that are delicious. That should help you satisfy the craving without going over board.
If I'm not mistaken, you're pregnant, right?
If you are, please do not eat Splenda or any artificial sweeteners! I don't know if you do, but I saw a suggestion about that and wanted to write this. Please read about them and the effects during pregnancy!
But I know exactly what you're talking about. I am also pregnant (with my second) and like my first pregnancy, with this little one I can't seem to get enough sugar! (maybe this means it's another girl?!?
Lord willing, I'll find out in 2 weeks!)
I tried doing the fruit substitution with grapes (which I LOVE), but I want chocolate and peanut butter! Every time I see that Halloween commercial for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups I'm just sitting there like ----->

One thing that does stop me from melting chocolate and pouring it strait into my mouth is the thought that it might not be the best thing for my baby. I imagine my weight gain, my blood sugar, cholesterol, triglyceride levels, the gestational diabetes test coming up, all the not fun things that we pregnant women need to think about (oh, I'm thinking about it now and I've been SO BAD....tonight I had Sweet and Sour Chicken for dinner-yeah, ate the whole thing-and ice cream cake after that
Yikes.....).
So, clearly I'm not the one to talk to here, but those are some things I think about if I really am trying to stop myself from that extra helping of pie.....
But I do want to say just one more time, please don't eat Splenda or artificial sweeteners! Please read about it! If you're going to eat sugar, make it the real thing!
Hi Lucy Ann - I'm assuming you're pregnant. I went through the same thing when I was pregnant, and I also had other weird things that sweets would exacerbate. Like I would have this weird phlegm in my throat all the time -- I'd have to spit constantly. A full tissue box became my best friend... I had to take one wherever I went! It was extremely annoying.
I only discovered much, much later that I was having a problem with candida (yeast). I didn't really get yeast infections, but being pregnant made an existing systemic yeast problem much worse. And in case you didn't know, yeast CRAVE sugar so they make you crave sugar. That's what was causing the cravings AND all of that phelgm and spitting.
So it was recommended to me to cut all sugar, dairy, wheat and even things like mushrooms... for at least two weeks. I could still eat healthy and have fruit like berries, but no bananas or high-sugar fruits. Lots of veggies and salads. Lots of good quality protein (again, no cheese). And plenty, plenty of water. And put apple cider vinegar on your salads (along with a good olive oil or something) instead of processed dressings. Put lemon in your water. And eat plenty of good quality yogurt or kefir to build up the good bacteria (they'll eat the candida). Also ask your doctor if you can take grapefruit seed extract. If you like spicy foods, eat plenty of those, too. If you still have a problem when not pregnant, you can move onto some other things like candida cleanses and things like that (you can find them online at various places... best prices are at Vitacost.com). They contain herbs that are natural internal anti-fungals. I did these for several months and my candida issue is gone and so are my sweet cravings and yucky spit and phlegm. Good luck to you!
