Have you changed your mind about getting vaccinated now that Obama has declared the swine flu a national emergency?

I was already planning (after much internal debate) to get the vaccine before Obama's administration made this announcement. What I'm wondering now is, what good will it do to declare it a national emergency? If it means more vaccines, great! Better public education, bonus points. We'll see.

Oh, GOOD thought, Patti-if this declaration beings forth more vaccines, then this is GREAT!

We got a shipment here of 1,000 doses and they were gone in less than one hour. It is excellent that people are being so smart and aware, but it also shows that we don't have nearly enough to make a real breakthrough with the rate of the spread.

It would be SO WONDERFUL if this declaration produces more!!!

No. That doesn't change anything for me personally because of the decision I made about isolating myself and my daughter, but maybe it'll change people's minds who aren't taking it as serious as it is.

So many think, "It's just another flu. If I get it, I get it and got over it just like I've gotten over the flu in the past. It's not that big of a deal, the media is making everyone panic."

Those people aren't thinking about what they could cause if not taking the precautions and spreading it to others and then causing a cycle. Others in high risk categories, who are around others in high risk.....exposure to young children not old enough to get the vaccine.....it's very scary actually, the damage the people can do when not taking someting like this seriously.

I was on the phone with a freind of mine last Saturday who just found out that what she has is the H1N1 virus. I won't go through the whole conversation because it'll get me to worked up, but she was planning on returning to work on Monday. I remained calm, then asked if there was anyone at work with asthma, who is pregnant or around anyone pregnant. After asking, she thought about it and saud she probably wouldn't go in then, but I was just left fumming. She is exactly who I am terrified of and why I'm avoiding people. They just don't care. They're not pregnant or high risk or anything, so why should they worry?

I can't think about it anymore or I'll get too mad.

ANYWAY, this declaration hasn't changed anything for me, but I hope it will for others out there around other high risk people.
