Not yet, but soon.  I think it's important to start a very young age so that they learn responsibility and it also shows them that with hard work, you can earn enough money to get the things you want.

I don't believe you should pay your children to do chores in their own home, after all you don't get paid to pick up after them. I do believe in allowances. It should not be related to chores though. They should be separate.

I have to clearify that my daughter will be three next month.   But, she does have three chores.  Making her bed (and i leave it no matter what it looks like) , she puts her clothes in the hamper twice a day.  picks up her toys before nap time and before her shower at seven pm.  We have a chart with stickers and works great!!

My girls are two and almost four, the oldest likes to fold lundry and the youngest empty the dishwasher. Both are in charge of their toys and making their beds, instead of a weekly allowance we do something big a month. For exampl this summer they wanted a bigger swimming pool so that is what we got them.

Dr. James Dobson belives that by the time a child is 12 years old they should be able to do their own laundry, simple meals, dishes, most chores, and helping with younger children, I ran a foster home for many years and went by his advise, and most often my house ran smoothly, my daughter-in-laws are surprized at the cooks their spouses are and that they can even do laundry and change diapers, they love me. It wasn't me it was Dr. Dobson! It was also a family working together that made our family more pleasant and we had more time for fun stuff watch Super Nanny she has great ideas too.
