Mirena removal - question and more
Had my mirena removed this week - I'm feeling very bloated, just wondering if thats pretty common? I assumed it would be.
I had it removed because it was due to come out (actually it was left in over a year longer than the 5) and also wanted to have another child.
I orginally started reading through forums online because when I went in last week for removal the strings could not be found. I was then sent to have an ultrasound done to make sure the device was still present and where the strings were located.
U/S showed positive for placement, went back in for removal that was not pleasant at all, pretty extreme cramping.
I've been told to wait at least one cycle before trying to get pregnant.
However in reading over the forums about Mirena I'm seeing pretty much 90% of people claiming weight gain. I was overweight when it went in, but I also had a non sleeping 1 year old that didn't sleep for another year, plus later diagnosed with autism..etc etc and in the time I've had mirena I put on at my heaviest 50lbs. I shed about 20-25lbs and held there, 25lbs up from the pre mirena weight, which at that time I was already about 35lbs overweight.
Now I'm wondering if mirena has been my issue! I've never had a weight issue, at most 20lbs above ideal weight, which was also eating bad and not exercising, but once those were put in place I always lost the weight. I've had a heck of time getting the weight off though the past 5 years. I've always chalked it up to my metabolism gone south since the last child and all the stress I was under for about 4 years.
I've never had any other Mirena issues, in fact I've done nothing but rave about it. Libido was fine, never had any pains, never any depression. Sounds like maybe I was just lucky!

It's amazing how something so small can cause so many issues. I've never gone the Mirena route, but I've seen so many people talking about the side effects -- I guess people who are satisfied don't generally say so, it's usually the unhappy ones who speak up so you can't really judge the numbers by the posts.
As for your current symptons, I imagine it takes time for your body to return to "normal" same as if you stopped any medication. See how you feel after you've gone through one menstrual cycle and if you're still feeling off, I'd go back to the doctor just to be sure.
