Mirena IUD Discussion Group
This is a public group to discuss experiences, get advice and share with others regarding the Mirena IUD.
Mirena caused me to gain weight, hot flashes, moodiness and acne
I had the Mirena implanted 3 months after I had my daughter, she is now 9 mos old. I made sure and researched it and saw the common side effects had a very low percentage on the Mirena website. Plus I asked a coworker who just had her put in a few months prior and she claims to have no side effects. I was not able to lose my baby weight and then I gained an additional 15 pounds. I thought it was taking a really long time to get my hormones elevated again after having a baby but I could sense something was not right. Then just recently I noticed my skin was not right, acne like dry skin and irritation. I finally called my doctor's office and when I told her all the symptoms I was having she had no problem taking it out and I will now take Orth-Tri Low. It appears I'm just one of those people that has reactions to these types of birth controls. Needless to say that I will be going to a weight loss doctor because I've gained so much weight. I'm now obese and my insurance will cover the cost for me to lose this weight.

This is wild to hear people having problems with the IUD. I have not gained weight, (at least from the IUD) I have not had a problem with my period except in the first few months. My periods are only like 3 to 5 days and they are light. My cramps do hurt a lot at times but I have given birth so I can handle it fine. I didn't get acne or gain an excessive amount of weight. I think since I had it put in in 2004 my weight fluctuates about 10 to 15 pounds. But that has been pretty normal for me. I am going to be having it replaced (due to recommended replacement after 5 years) and I don't think I will go back to taking pills, that I manage to always forget to take.
I would start taking a daily vitamin and seeing that i'm eating properly along with some mild exercise to lose the weight.
Seriously?! That's your advice? don't you think that has been tried! I have been on Mirena for 4 months, I work out for 1 hour every day and eat VERY well. I've only lost 7 Lbs since the birth of my daughter. The IUD SUCKS!
Hi. I just started a discussion as I am unsure about getting the Mirena. I would really appreciate it if you would read my post and offer any input you may have. thanks so much.
I'm not sure if
I'd be willing to risk any more side effects. I've had mine in for 6
days and getting it out this afternoon. I'm 11wks post partum and a
stay at home mom for the past week I've had the following side effects:
bad back aches
terrible cramps
spotting
large amounts of egg white mucus discharge
congestion
tired
eating like an elephant
yelling at my kids
feeling over whelmed
etc...
right now I'm waiting for the Tylenol to kick in so I can function.
The first thing that should give you a clue that this is a terrible
form of BC is the first sentence on the booklet, "Not sure how this
works..." writing write on the first page, first sentence.
Try something else.
Acne is mainly caused due to overproduction of sebum in sebaceous glands of the body. Diet containing much oil must be avoided to prevent from acne. Balanced nutritious diet should be taken.
