Mirena????
I recently had Mirena put in on Feb 19, 2009. I am having some crazy reactions. This week I started to get red bumps all over my arms, chest, etc. I am going to the drs today. I believe that I am having this issue because of the Mirena I think my body is rejecting this. I never, never had skin issues before. And yes I am hungry all the time. I never felt like this before. I want this out of my body...

How long did it take for your bumps to go away. I have them as well I haven't sleep fir two days because am itching alot:(
Wow! I have had Mirena for the past 2 years. I was always a tiny woman, never weighing above 120(besides when I was pregnant) now I am 180 lbs. No matter what I have done, I cannot lose the weight. After reading all this stuff, I know it's because of Mirea. I also have the red bumps all over my arms. I went to Dr. and she told me it was dry skin, but no matter how much lotion I put on, they never go away. After reading your blog, I know it's from the mirena also. I am calling the Dr. tomorrow to have it removed. Thanks for your blog. It opened my eyes!!!!
I am sooooo glad that I found this site and I am glad to know that I'm not the only one that is having problems with the Mirena. I had mine put in on July 2, 2008 and since then I have gained 25-30 pounds (depending on the time of day). My husband thinks that I'm crazy and just doesn't understand the hormone thing. He thinks I'm lazy and just making excuses for the added weight gain. Grant it I did have weight to lose b4 I had this thing, but now I have that much more weight to lose. I have ALL the feelings of being pregnant down to feeling movement (the fluttering you feel when you are pregnant and even what feels like kicks). I know for sure that I'm not pregnant - I've been to the dr. to check on this maybe 4-6 wks ago. I am retaining water and have bad mood swings. I just started breaking out on my face around my chin. I do believe that my body produces enough hormones without adding to it. I have an appt. 2morrow to have it removed. I can't handle this anymore. There are a few things I will miss the light to no periods (bleeding part) and the no cramping part as well.
OMG I have red bumps all over my body I got the mirena on march and I went to get it out these morning I just couldn't deal the pain on my body
I am so glad I found the site! I had my 3rd child in the end of June of '08. Although I have always been slightly overweight, during this third pregnancy I only gained 14 lbs...which was a far cry from the 65 lb&40 lb weight gains with my first two...so I was elated! Upon coming home from having my third, I was ecstatic to get on the scale to see that I was actually 3lbs LIGHTER than I was before I found out I was pregnant. After the breastfeeding and getting back to the normal routine, I gained back 5. It was time to start thinking about contraception, so I had the Mirena "installed" in the beginning of Sept. '08. Choosing the Mirena over other contraceptives because of the ease and longevity of it. It is now almost the end of April...and I have been reading all these comments for the last two hours. Until this morning....I have been blaming all of my seemingly random symptoms on my MS and the fact that I am getting old and possibly starting menopause(I'm 38). Although I realize some of m,y symptoms are classic MS symptoms.....all of these others have just been..."idk's" to my nuerologist and my doctor. They are the following:
* Extreme dizziness at the onset of my period, to the point where I have to sit down or I will fall
* Bloated in the legs and middle region
* Lack of sex drive and difficulty climaxing
* weight gain....17 lbs
* difficulty sleeping
* tired all the time
* sadness
* muscle soreness esp. in back and legs
* constipation
* the feeling of something in my throat
* the feeling of "novacaine wearing off" in my feet
* general unsteadiness
The last two are most assuredly MS side effects....however, all the others could be almost anything.
After reading these comments, I am recalling a conversation I had with my doctor about my concerns with the Mirena. I told him I felt as though I could "feel" it inside me...like slight pressure. At the time, it had been only 6 weeks, so the symptoms were still mild and the weight gain was only minimal...about 5 lbs. He assured me that the Mirena was awesome and to give it more time. Bologna! I am making an appointment today to have it removed. I will try anything that might make me feel better. I will make sure to come back to this site after a couple months and let you all know if it helped!!
I am a mother of 1, 24 years old, and a nursing student. When I got pregnant it was a complete surprise to my husband and me. I put my life and school on hold to raise a child at home and eventually wanted to go back to school to finish my degree. Now that my baby is 1 year old I have finally went back to finish. I had the Mirena put in almost 1 year ago and I'm sooooo thankful to have it out! The first 6 months were great after getting it in, but soon after I started experiencing weird symptoms. Symptoms my doctor never warned me about.
- Tiredness all the time ( No energy to do things I normally did)
- Headaches ( Never had headaches ever growing up)
- Depressed mood ( Lack of care about my marriage or anything)
- Gained 15 pounds and had no change in eating habits or exercise ( Work at a very physical job)
- Fluttering in my stomach ( Took many pregnancy tests)
- Diarreah
- More mucus on genitals ( which doctors do tell you)
- Stiff neck and shoulders
- blurred vision and nausia
- Abdominal pain ( Went to the emergency and said take this damn thing out!)
I'm telling you the list goes on and on. I have talked to many women that love Mirena so I thought I was making these things up. Until I went into the emergency room and the nurse asked if my IUD was Mirena and said " Oh big surprise." She proceded to tell my how many woman have come in and complained about these symptoms I was having. Diarrhea 2 straight weeks, cripling abdominal pain, feeling worthless, and overall feeling as if your health was that of a 90 year old. Thankfully a doctor that had never taken one out did it for me. It has now been 5 days since the removal and I feel more alert and skinnier. Seriously! My mood is overnight better and my headaches subsided. I don't know if doctors push the IUD because they get a commission or what, but take women's advice that have had the horrible thing! You may not have any of these reactions but the risks are all too common! Good luck finding the right birthcontrol. I'm going to stick to condoms. They stink, are really inconvient, and cost more, but there are no hormones or devices you must keep inside you.
