IUD...OMG!!!

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

I was looking up side effects and I started to read your experiences. They are the same as mine. I was fine the first few months then I started blacking out, feeling light headed, very hot, racing heart, and even throwing up. Everyone around me thinks I have a bug but its been months, and I'm to the point where I'm calling my doctor to get it removed. I have also got more acne, and gained weight and seems impossible to lose on the IUD!!! I have also have bleeding problems as well. I feel everyones pain and discomfort. I'm so glad I found this site. Smiley

I am so glad I found women who are having the same problems as me! I'm not going crazy after all!

I had my Mirena inserted almost a year ago. I had the usual spotting and lots of bleeding and then it finally tapered off except for the spotting after sex. It hurt sometimes during sex too. In the past I have suffered from anxiety and depression and had I known that those illnesses are adverse effects from this iud I would never ever have had it put in!

I have also had breast tenderness, dizziness, cysts on my ovaries (hence the wicked abdominal pain. It was so bad and so often that I went to my obgyn thinking I had an ectopic pregnancy. Thank goodness I didn't.)

A few months ago we moved to a new state away from old friends and family. I was adjusting pretty well until just this last month I began having a lot more nervousness and anxiety. It was so bad that I thought I was having a heart attack and called 911 one day. I went to emergency and they ran all kinds of tests. All came back normal. Why would a 32 yr old women be having a heart attack anyway? they said. (In the past year I have also had my iron and thyroid checked as I have been super tired and no energy for anything. Those test came back normal too. ) Around this time I began to lose soooooo much hair! I was so worried and scared! Every time I get in the shower I can pull out ropes of hair. It's all over the house, in the vacuum cleaner, all over my clothes and probably falling in our food. I figured I was going crazy because of my anxiety. My husband even suggested I see a psychologist to finally get my anxiety behind me. But when I was anxious in the past it was because of a certain event not just random anxiety!

I went to a beauty supply store hoping to find a product to help my hair loss. I talked to the owner who is also a hairdresser, and even showed her a bag of hair I had lost over one week (sorry I know that's gross but I think we are all desperate for relief here!) and she told me that I need to see a doctor right away. She said that women don't lose hair until menopause because of hormones........

Last week while looking for a piece of ID I came across my Mirena card and suddenly it dawned on me that my iud has hormones! I forgot about it until today when I lost more hair than I ever have before. I got on the internet and found a list of women with adverse reactions reported by doctors. One of the effects was hair loss! (Not to mention weight gain, acne and everything else women are dealing with.) This particular group lists several members with hair loss and I just want to say that I am so glad that I am not alone. I have recently started to gain weight too but my thick hair that I used to have is gone and it is so thin now. It is heartbreaking and alarming to say the least.

I also found a the pdf that states what the adverse reactions are that a patient can have with Mirena but they are not listed in the patient pamphlet!

Check it out:

www.contracept.org

Here is the doctors pamphlet:

http://www.contracept.org/doc/mirena-doctors.pdf

While hair loss is not a common problem nonetheless 3% of women are experiencing this and that is 3% too many. All the other symptoms are listed here too.

Not only that but I feel like I have aged 15-20 years. Are age spots normal in a 32 yr old? My mom is 55 and she doesn't have them!

I am going to have this thing removed as soon as I can find a good doctor. If this person refuses I will pull out the pdf and show them exactly where it shows that hair loss is an adverse affect! I am not looking forward to the "Mirena Crash" as many put it but I can't stand this any more. I hope I can escape the effects of it. My next mission is to spread the word that this product is horrible for a women's body.

If any of you have had this iud removed and were experiencing hair loss please let me know that it does in fact grow back after removal!

Just found this on another site:

http://www.fda.gov/medwatch

It is a page for those who wish to report adverse reactions to drugs. if every one reported then maybe some action and investigations would get under way. This is a terrible product.

I have had the IUD now almost 4 years I have never ever liked it but just have been way to scared to get pregnant. I have 3 boys and my youngest will be 4 in April. Why do I not like it? 1. the cramping that I a week or so prior to my period is like being in labor all over again, 2. I stoppped bleeding for maybe 4 or 5 months since I had the IUD, 3. Acne, 4. my moodiness is out of control. and the very biggest and last reason which has just scared the crapola outta me...The IUD has shifted I have been spotting, bleeding, very uncomfortable lots of pain, and sex has been so no fun. So I go see my doctor and she was not able to see the strings and or the IUD. So then she has to do a ultrasound and she finds it sort of laying on side of the wall of my uterus. So then she trys to get it out and it won't hook to the tool she is using. So I have to go back cause she had to order another tool. So since then I have been having this pulsey feeling in my stomach (like a baby kicking, I know there is no baby.) It is just really really starting to concern me. If that tool does not work today I will then be looking at surgery to remove the foreign object that in my body.

omg the same thing has happened to me i have the iud and it has caused me so many problems like you my iud moved and i had a ultrasound and they said it was in my uterus the doctor said they would have to put me asleep and do surgery to remove it .i hate everything that this stupid thing has done to me ! i just want to be me again i feel your pain  and i wish you the best .i have to go back this tuesday to see about surgery. i can't till it's gone

OMG...I just had the same experience today. I went to the dr to have the stupid thing removed after having so many side effects including, headaches that I couldn't even get out of bed w/ out vomiting, nausea, fainting, dizziness and several others. Well during the procedure they couldn't find the strings and tried several objects to find them and pull it out. I was in excruciating pain I thought they were literally going to pull out my uterus while searching for the iud, finally 2 hours and a whole lot of pain later while one dr pushed on the outside of my stomach w/ the ultrasound thing the other dr used these ridicously long forcep looking things and finally wiggled it out. I have never been in so much pain in my life! Im so glad that its out and hope my side effects go away soon. I saw on one posting about the mirena crash and was wondering if anyone had anymore info about that.
