The horrible coughing
My little girl has had this cold for over a week and it seems that her coughing has never been as bad as it is today. It's dry and it sounds like it hurts a lot. She gets frustrated with it. I took her to the doctor and he said that there is no wheezing.
I feel like I could do something to ease the pain a little.
Is there anything around that could help a 10 months old??
Thanks

Has the cough gotten better since you posted? My little girl had croup. It got worse when she got excited. She needed a steroid to open up her airways. I sat in the bathroom with her and put the shower on and that did help.
My 12 month daughter is going through the same thing, but she coughs so hard that it causes her to vomit once or twice a day. I took her to the doctor yesterday and he said there was no wheezing, there is no pnemonia or anything like that. He said to suck her nose with bulb, use a humidifier in her room, and DO NOT give her cold medicine. When she starts to cough i give her water, that seems to help a little. But he basically told me to ride it out. As a mother, that is not the advice you want to hear.
You could also try tilting up the head of her crib a little to elevate her head when she is sleeping. I used to put stacks of books under the matress, but you can also put bricks under the feet of the crib. Of course you need to get the humidifier out too. If it's really bad and croupy, you take her in the bathroom filled with steam from a hot shower for ten minutes, and then outside to get cool air (depending on how cool that air is!) Repeat a couple times, and it will help with croup.
Thanks for all your answers. Snce i posted my thing, her cold is gone. The snotty nose remains... I guess she just has to get rid of the nasty stuff. She is no longer frustrated with the coughing (meaning she doesn't grunt anymore after a spurt), and she doesn't throw up either (i didn't know that could happen!!!).
I put a pillow under her mattress, got a vaporizer and and dd the saline+aspirator... My doctor doesn't worry. It's a natural mechanism.
Aaaah babies, they have us worrying so much.... she's my first
