down with mirena
OMG!
iam so happy i found this site. i thought the mirena was the miracle of a life time. i researched all about how there were none to light side effects. NO WEIGHT GAIN !!!!! oh happy day, right!! i was a depo girl and then that didnt work. im too forgetful to take the pill and then i found this little plastic hook T thang. "wow" i said and for five years!!!!!! Until i had it put in.......the most painful thing i ever felt. she sprayed numbing somethin or other and i still almost went into tears. i had severe cramping as you all know already, the bleeding, the uncomfortable feeling of this foreign object, well you all know the story. So anyways after a couple of days recouping my boyfriend explained to me that he was able to feel the strings and that made it kinda of painful for him. about 2 wks later i had even more severe cramping, dropping me to my knees pain
, i called the Ob and got the ultra sound appointment. i had grown a cyst in my ovaries about 2cm in diameter. i never had this before. prescription of motrin and i was home again. well that went away and from that cyst on, numerous things had occured, everytime i went out on the weekend for drinks and a long nite out i woke up with bad cramping again but without a period and it would last all day long. bloating one week, fine the next, bloated again for a month, the normal again. finally i have bloated to where it looks like i have gained 10 lbs. i dont own a scale but you just know. it wont go away. my face has acne, im moody, and exhausted. im putting an end to this before it gets out of control.
THANKS A BUNCH LADIES
i've already passed the word of this site and on the mirena iud. my appt is on the 19th. i hope its not as painful out as it was in.FREEDOM!!!!!!

Very disappointed...I became Hypoglycemic!
My story: I became Hypoglycemic within weeks of having the Mirena inserted. My symptoms were; anxiety, shakiness, irritability and nightmares.
I went to a primary care doctor and then to a endocrinologist complaining of that my blood sugar was becoming a problem. I was aware of the feeling of low blood sugar because when I breast feed my two boys (ages now 7 and 10) I then easily became hypoglycemic. However, I have not had this problem since.
Both physicians thought that i had reactive hypoglycemia because my fasting glucose was within normal limits.I have a healthy diet but i changed my eating habits even further (e.g. gave up all caffeine, sweets, alcohol. I started eating more whole grains and had small meals every 3 hours).
Even though I change my eating habits the side effects still became worse.I was starting to get panic attacks, I had never had these before. During one of my worst panic attacks (9 months after I had the Mirena inserted) I called my sister. I kept saying "I don't know what is causing me to be so anxious, I have never been like this before." Well, that statement sank in, I started to think about what was different. The only thing was the Mirena. That night I look up side effects of the Mirena and came across several blogs all describing their disappointment and many speaking about anxiety related issues.
I have to say I felt relief. It was not going crazy. The following day I read the official FDA Mirena web-site and that is when I found out about the effects on blood glucose. It is stated that Levonorgestrel may effect glucose tolerance and the blood glucose. However, my gynecologist never mentioned this side effect so I was not aware of this potential reaction. Btw, I had told both the primary care doctor and the endocrinologist that I had a Mirena IUD but neither of them new about the effects to the blood glucose.
The other interesting thing I noticed on the official FDA Mirena site is that when the list the Adverse reactions (depression, nervousness, weight gain etc...) they say reported by 5% or more subjects...hmmm, MORE...i think that is a key word!
I had it removed one month ago and I am starting to feel better. From what I understand, it may take up to 3 months to get the Levonorgestrel to get completely out of the system. however, my hypoglycemia is starting to diminish, I recently had a cup of coffee without getting the shakes and I can now enjoy a glass of wine at night too. My anxiety is almost completely gone.
What a relief to have figured this out!
OK ladies, I'm not a blogger, never have before but I just had to share my story with everyone...I am the mother of 7 year old twin boys, I had the Mirena put in June of 2004. At first I loved it!! I cannot take the pill because of the hormones, every one I have ever been on, including Micronor (the mini pill) have made me fat and irritable to say the least. My doctor suggested Mirena saying the hormones would not go into my bloodstream and it has almost no side effects. I have never had a weight problem, I'm 5'7" and my normal weight is 125-135. I'm currently 160. I do not have a problem with food, I have very good, healthy eating habits and I exercise regularly. I have not been able to lose a pound no matter what I do, I've had 2 pelvic ultrasounds due to extreme bloating that will not go away. Here's a quick rundown of all my symptoms:
weight gain
inability to lose weight
feeling like there's something in my throat
bloated after eating
constant water retention
moody/short tempered
tired
not sleeping well, if at all
extreme muscle soreness in my upper back, I feel like I was in a car accident for about 2 years!
breakouts on my face, I actually had to buy zit cream, I haven't had breakouts since I was 13
memory loss
I've always been hypoglycemic, but I feel like it's getting worse every day
I went to a new doctor last week, she said progesterone=pre-gestation. My body is holding onto water and fat for the baby ( that isn't there). I was about to hire a personal trainer until I found this blog, thank you!! I'm not crazy! I NEVER would have attributed all these symptoms to the IUD. My doctor said GET IT OUT NOW so I'm going to keep updating this for all you ladies that think you might want it, or want to get it out. Mine is coming out Sept 2, 2008.
Also, I just found a website that said do not have sex less than 1 week before having it removed, as sperm can live for 5 days, so when it's removed and if you're ovulating you can become pregnant. Glad I saw that!
I will keep everyone posted as to my progress weekly
First I have to say...Doesn't every woman understand that there body is different from everyone else! Some people have allergies, some have cancer, some are fat and some are thin, and some people have genetic problems. With birth control there are always side affects; so just because it didn't work for you, doesn't mean it's a horrible thing. I'm allergic to neosporin (11% of americans are) but do people sit there and say not to use it?
I had a beautiful baby girl in 2004, my doctor suggested a Mirena. I though it was going to be a wonderful thing for me and my boyfriend. No worries for 5 years! It worked great for us and I had 4 periods over the next 3 years. Ya I had cramps and was a little moody every month, but it was so simple. About a year after I got it my boyfriends sister decided she wanted to get one. She was tired of the daily pill and the NuvaRing. She bled for 2 months straight and had severe cramps. She decided to get it taken out. Her body just didn't take to it!!
Since then I had my Mirena removed in April of 2007 and conceived our second child. I gave birth to a son in June of this year and got another Mirena. So far so good. I only had cramps for 2 days and everything is fine. I believe it's not for everyone, but people shouldn't make it seem like a horrible thing. I want people to understand that every woman is different!
I am so happy I came across this site. I have the mirena iud in plac
i have had the mirena iud in place for about 2 years now and I feel horrible. Every single side effect that I have heard is present in me. I thought that I was losing my mind. I felt like noone understands and have felt so alone for the past 2 yaers until now! I sat here crying with happiness that I have finally found the source of this sickness. My "good days" are getting smaller and smaller . I have been to several doctors over the years and the have preceded to just up my zoloft and tell my That "Im to young to feel like this." The zoloft, lexapro, prozac any of it doesn't work. My most recent attack has been extreme abd. pain , my PCP sent me for abd. and pelvic CAT scan that showed burst ovarian cysts. I have never had these problems before. I am running to my OB/GYN on 9/2/08 and getting this posion out of me. I wondering if anyone has any suggestions on birth control after the IUD. I just can't handle this anymore.... Thank you to everyone who took the time to write and share your stories it has changed my life. All the doctors denied any side effects from this and dismissed my complaints,
I've had mine for over 4 years, keep me posted and I will keep you posted because we're both getting them out tomorrow...I have a lot of water retention and weight issues from it as well.
well i had it out today. They did an ultrasound of my ovaries d/t abd. pain and tenderness and found a complex cysts on my right ovary. The MD said that hopefully it will clear on its own I have to repeat the us in 6 weeks. I started on YAZ today. I was telling the MD about this website and all the blogs on the terrble side effects and how I have been experencing all of them and she still woun't say that she believed that it was the IUD. Amazing the doctor said don't go believing everything you read on the internet. I said to her these are womens experiences and the mirena website denies these side effects and thats bullshit. She just laughed. But I am hopefull that eventually I will start to feel better. Let me know how it goes. good luck
Mine's out too...I did have ovarian cysts, not sure about right now...I didn't bother telling my doctor. I'm going to wait to see what happens and then tell her...I'll update soon. also, 163 lbs yesterday at doc, will I be able to lose it now?? I hope so!
OK, it's been a week. I'm sleeping better, my back is healing, I can actually move my neck now. I don't feel quite as bloated as I did, and I'm down 2 lbs. It's better than up 2, so I'm happy...I do feel like my body is a little confused, but it's to be expected. I'll update next week!
Down 5 lbs in 10 days...my neck is better and I think I'm sleeping a little better. I have not had an anxiety attack in about 10 days. I've been a little PMS off and on, but otherwise I'm happy!
