But It's The Best Part
With the hoiday's upon us, one thing many people are doing these days is baking. Back when I had plenty of free time (the good old days ) I would love to bake 2 or 3 different types of cookies and a few other candies.
Honestly, the best part of all those cookies, was always the dough! I would eat so much that as soon as the cookies were cooked, I was way too full to even taste them!
This goes way back to when I was a little kid. I have fond memories of licking the bowl clean of the waffle batter my dad would make every Sunday morning - yum! It was always way better than the actual cooked batter. And my mom wouldn't be able to get the beaters anywhere near the sink until I was done with them after she mixed together a delicious cake or cupcake batter.
I don't think my parents ever thought twice about what I was eating - and I never once go sick from any of it. Not until I was pregnant did I begin to heed the warnings about raw eggs that are found in all of these doughs and batters. Of course, these past habits are hard to break, and raw chocolate chip cookie dough continues to be one of my favorite foods. You know I'm not the only one - jeez, they started putting it in ice cream!
As my daughter gets older, it will be very hard not to share these traditions with her. There's always that chance that a stray egg could cause some trouble. I guess we'll have to stick with the frosting beaters, raw butter and sugar don't carry the same bacteria - but I've gotten plenty sick off them myself .
If you'd like to read more about raw eggs in doughs and batters, here's an article I ran across which is written by a nutritionist.
Happy baking!
