Ft Hood TX
As my husband and I were eating supper this evening, the news reported a shooting at Ft Hood Army Base.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims. Of all places on US soil that you expect to be safe, a military installation should be at the top of the list. You don't expect one of your comrades in arms to be the one doing the shooting.
Now mind you, the news station didn't have much to report at 5:30 p.m. eastern time, but several internet news agencies did.
I wonder if this is going to be a growing trend? I know no one wants to go fight in a war, but it's a real possiblity when you sign on the dotted line. (My son is in the reserves and he was told straight out that sometime in his military career he will be deployed). My step son had some of his comrades go AWOL right before they were being deployed. It is my understanding from reading the news reports that this person didn't want to be deployed.
I'm sorry, he had other options that did not include the lives of others. Please keep all the victims in your thoughts and prayers.

It's a terrible situation but I'm sure there was more to it than just that. There have been reports of other incidents with him, and how odd that he was a psychiatrist trained to deal with combat stress.
I'm sure we'll find out more in the days to come. It's a sad situation for everyone but thanks to the cool heads of those on the ground, it ended before it was much wose.
I was watching this morning and the news said that the men in the room quickly recovered from the shock of the incident and managed to barracade a room that was filled with 600 people attending a graduation.
Can you imagine if that soldier had gotten to that room or any of those people had tried to come in where the soldiers were.
Even in the face of their own tragedy they saved hundreds of other people from being hurt.
I agree with Cynthia, I believe this man was probably very unstable in the first place. I don't think just the thought of being deployed caused him to do this. The fact that he was a counselor is just astounding.
It is a horrible incident, and my heart of course goes out to all those families.
And yes, Nichole, thank God for those men barricading that room. As horrible as this was, that could have really been...wow, so beyond tragic.
