Regular Features on a Blog
Cynthia's post on lists made me think of something that I do on my own blog.
I know a lot of people participate in wordless wednesdays and thursday 13 and these are popular weekly features to have on a blog but I came up with a few of my own that really enjoy doing (even though they haven't been done in awhile 
)
I used to do something called Website Wednesday where I would feature a cool website that I had found. I'd like to pick that up again, especially as the holidays are coming around... there are a lot of cool holiday themed websites out there!
Also I have Dear Guilty Parents where I feature a reader question or parenting advice question. It's a really great way for readers to come out and help one another and give each other support! Lastly, (and this one is my favorite) I have the Guilty Parent Awards where I feature something I heard or read (usually in the news) either about parents behaving badly or companies. I've got a large list to hand out for the next one I do.
Another blogger I know does, Dear Kid Thursday or Dear Kid Saturday where she writes her son a letter and posts it online. It's usually something cute about sleeping in or something he said. It's a great way to keep the memories of him growing up. She also lets other people contribute too and link up with her on it.

This is a great idea - there's something about a regularly scheduled event that is comforting to readers. They look forward to seeing it every week.
It also helps you focus on what you'll write in a given week. Good stuff.

Is it a "faux pas" to use some of these ideas & adapt them for my own blog?
Definitely not! The goal is to get new ideas for content.
The only thing that most bloggers like is at least a link back so if you use the idea (for instance Website Wednesdays) throw a little something into your post that says... Nikki over at (with a link to the blog) and that's just good blog karma. You link to them, they will see that you've linked and they'll come, visit, comment, and maybe link back to you at a later date. That's how bloggers spread the word about each other.

I have been meaning to implement "Wrap it Wednesday" (or something along those lines, I'm still playing with the idea, but haven't actually done it yet. :)
