Planning to see Disney's new film "The Princess and the Frog"?
Many of you might have heard about this upcoming film from Disney. It's not only the first time Disney is returning to traditional two-dimensional hand-drawn animation since abandoning the medium to computer-generated animation in 2002 and a musical along the lines of "Cinderella". It is also the first time a main character in a Disney animated film is African American. Oh, and it's a take on the traditional story of the princess who kisses the frog -- with a twist.
Disney is also promoting the fact that this is a slightly un-traditional princess character, in that she's smart and tough and makes some big decisions on her own. (Personally, I think Ariel from "The Little Mermaid" was a bit of a tough cookie too, although she was still pretty traditional in some ways, like having Sebastian the crab be her chaperone.)
Here's a trailer if you haven't seen it yet: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/princessandthefrog/ I think the animation looks beautiful (it's set in New Orleans!) and it looks like a really fun movie. Hopefully I can take my daughter to see it -- she's not really into princesses but maybe the frog will captivate her just as it does Princess Tiana!

I think most of the Disney Princesses these days portray girls in a positive light. Belle was a reader who was very brave and kind. Pochantas certainly was an adventurous and intelligent woman.
I think it's nice to see them diversifying with an African American lead and I hope people don't stay away from the film because they don't think they can relate. It's so good to see them return to old fashioned animation. I think it's wonderful.
Most Definitely! My 11 year old daughter and I can't wait to see the Princess and the Frog. We're going to make it into a fun "girls day out" by going to the mall to see it, then do some Christmas Shopping, and finish with a yummy dinner!

I know what you mean. We didn't take my daughter to her first movie til she was almost 4! And I'm glad we waited, cuz she doesn't like to sit still either. :)
