Did you ever think that you could learn to count without using any words for numbers? Well, a couple of researchers conducted a study (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080818/...) measuring whether kids actually need numbers to count! So, what did they find? It seems that these number words, may not be necessary.

The study included English speaking students along with those who spoke languages which do not include many words for numbers. Some of them use one, two and more than that, and some use none at all. The results, which are not absolutely
conclusive, did show that all kids did pretty much the same. The one's without the numbers, sometimes even did better
than those who spoke English. All this time spent learning to count (with actual names for numbers) and we may not even
need them!
